La Do — Restaurant in Barcelona

Interesting selection of donut flavours, but poor experience overall on my most recent visit.

I had been to La Donuteria previously (and enjoyed it), and had starred it on my map to visit again. I was in the neighbourhood again, and popped by for a donut and coffee.

The donut selection is good -- interesting flavours / combinations. Dough is good (yeasty and fairly soft) though a bit dry. I've found a couple of their donuts to be a bit too sweet for me, but that's subjective.

I ordered an Americano with my most recent donut, and it tasted quite bad (rancid) -- unlike any coffee I've had before (and I am very into coffee). It tasted like the machine was broken or there some sort of contamination of the water. It was super watery (visually and body) but had an off flavour. I had a few sips and also asked my friends to try it, who also said it tasted off. I asked the staff member about it, to see if they could try it and see if they thought it was off also.

The staff member said she had made it as usual way, and that there is nothing wrong with it (without trying it). She calls over the other staff member (male) who very authoritatively says there is nothing wrong and "maybe you don't like the coffee -- it's a blend of 8 different beans from our local roaster". I said this wasn't a result of a blend or bean variety issue, given my experience with coffee. I didn't drink the rest of it and left it on the counter for staff to dispose of (since we didn't want to put it in the garbage can in case the bottom would leak). The male staff member angrily threw it away.

Metto le mani avanti: spiace lasciare un recensione così, specialmente perché sono sempre attratto da questi "progetti un po' hipster" i quali, credo, dietro nascondano sempre sforzi/sacrifici/sogni personali, ma proprio non ci siamo.

Prima un po' di contesto; siamo passati lì per caso, andavamo a mangiare una pizza alle 16 a poca distanza e siamo stati attratti dal profumo di dolci appena sfornati e dall’aspetto del locale che sembra gridare "abbasso i franchising".

Entro, c'è poca, pochissima luce, da fuori pensavo fosse una bakery e quando vedo esposti solo questi enormi doughnut che davano del "tu" al mio diabete, voglio quasi desistere.

Mi rivolgo alla mia compagna cercando supporto, ma lei, golosa quanto me (e non diabetica), mi invita a prenderne 2 come post pizza, visto che la prospettiva era il 'solito" tiramisù o dolce al pistacchio.

L'aspetto non mi convince, non sono proprio per il "menos es más", ma quei doughnut sono enormi e, forse, ho già intuito il “pericolo“. Chiedo aiuto al pasticcere, chiedendogli quali sono i più venduti. Mi risponde che cambiano tutti i giorni e non saprebbe dirmi (che bella l'artigianalità).

Optiamo per uno semplice alla vaniglia del Tahiti ed uno credo al lampone o qualcosa di rosso, non ricordo.

Paghiamo 3,40€ cadauno che è un prezzo giusto, forse, oserei dire, anche buono visto la mole di quelle dannate ciambelle.

Ora passiamo alla recensione vera e propria: nulla, erano immangiabili e dopo 2 piccoli morsi, abbiamo desistito. La loro peculiarità, come già ben specificato, è che sono grandi, ma finisce lì. L’impasto sembra più pane fritto che un doughnut scioglievole ed equilibrato e poi sono davvero troppo, troppo, troppo dolci. Tanto da nascondere tutti sapori, infatti della vaniglia del Tahiti o del lampone non c'è rimasto nulla, solo lo zucchero.

Un peccato davvero, perché posti del genere a volte sono delle vere e proprie gemme, ma tipo un KrispyCreme sarebbe stato di gran lunga un opzione migliore. 🙁

P.S. Abbiamo poi identificato l'odore che ci ha attratto ad entrare, ovvero proveniva da un batch di babka da poco sfornati, purtroppo non in vendita, in quanto mi è stato detto li producono con il fine di fornire varie caffetterie della zona...magari chissà sarebbe stato meglio un babka o sicuramente, il...

The donuts here are baked!!! What? I've heard of baked donuts but that's definitely not traditional or typical. Anyway, they taste more like bagels with sugary stuff on top. Nothing special about the flavour, just dry. The coffee (Americano) was way too weak, almost no coffee taste at all. I told the guy with the beard working there and he was extremely condescending saying "do you know what Americano is? It's coffee with water!" :( Don't know, maybe he had a bad day or something but he definitely shouldn't be taking it out on...
