Bar freiduría El Pulpo Pirata — Restaurant in Benidorm

A casual wander around the heart of the Old Town ahead of the Burial of the Sardine carnival led me to this restaurant, and what a find.

El Pulpo Pirata is a popular, traditional busy restaurant and bar with the locals, so you know that it's worth a try.

I was immediately made to feel welcome by the barman, who promptly served me an ice cold pint of Cruzcampo (€3) with a tapa of freshly sliced ham and cheese on bread.

A fresh basket of sliced bread was brought to my table while I looked through the menu. I ordered pork loin steaks and chips (€8.50), which was freshly cooked and delicious. A simple dish cooked well.

The staff are friendly, fast, efficient and work like machines to deliver consistently good food, service and an enjoyable experience.

I will return to try different dishes, knowing that I have found somewhere that I have enjoyed and cannot be faulted.

I really think that most holidaymakers are missing a trick by not exploring the Old Town and trying restaurants where the locals eat and drink. You know you will not be ripped off and whatever you eat and drink will be good and well priced in an authentic venue.

This was a little packed restaurant. Full of Spanish with a fantastic buzzing atmosphere. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the same. Mist people had opted for the 15.95 euro set menue. There seemed to be a gd choice but not very exciting. We wanted the paella, which wasn't available in Sunday. We orders bread and garlic mayo. The bread was dry. The second basket was fresh. I got fish which was over cooked and rubbery. My husband had pork which again was over cooked and tough. We waited 45 mins for this to come. Such a shame. We thought we had found a little gem . Not to be. Wouldn't go back. Although we did chat to a lovely Spanish...

El otro día fui con mi pareja a comer.. Yo soy alérgica al tomate 100% y a la lechuga.. en fin.

El camarero que nos atendió , una decepción, no sonreía, no era agradable, luego le dije que soy alérgica al tomate y a la lechuga , y no puedo comer nada de menú de entrada , le digo si puedo optar otra cosa de entrante.. bueno me dice que no hay.. y le dice mi pareja se paga aparte.. el camarero, (que debe estar señalado por su nombre) no se entera y vuelve a repetir el menú.. una y otra vez.. Hasta que me cabree

Por otro lado la comida . El pan.. más seco que la mojama , lo agarraba y se hacía migas, y también estaba para dárselo a los pájaros mojado (duro que te pego en la cabeza y te hago daño)eso si, tostado para disimular..Pedi media ración de salpicón de marisco ( en plato de café ) por eso nos cobraron 3 con 50 😱 luego se pidió mi pareja una cerveza Heineken 2 con 20 😱 el pan que nosotros no pedimos más.. nos dice el camarero os traigo más, pero ya tenía la cesta en la mano.. bueno, por esa repetición de pan duro otravez nos cobró 1 euro.. luego el salmón no era ni a la plancha ni salmón , eso era una especie de suela de zapatillas chafado y fino.. Y encima con salsa verde 😖(a la plancha dice el menú)

La cuenta fueron 24 con 70😱

Así con esos precios no optas luego ni a irte de cena ni nada, tomar algo. .....
