This place needs no introduction. It’s extremely popular despite being off the beaten track. You HAVE TO make a reservation at least one day before. It’s the only “green” place on the island, that’s why it’s called la sombra as you’re surrounded by a little forest of beautiful trees in the shade away from the hot sun of Fuerteventura. The ambience is 10/10 truly the most unique on the whole island so incredibly well done to the owner for nailing that.
The food however is a little tasteless. The items on the menu follow current food trends with beyond burger and generally a very vegan friendly menu. However they are not executed to perfection leaving most of the dishes taste a little bland. The tastiest dish is the goat stew which is probably their most famous dish. We tried a big selection on the menu. If the majority of the dishes had a little tweak to become tastier it would have been a 5 star experience overall. One good example is the falafel dish. You can clearly see that the falafels are handmade which is amazing but they lack herbs, garlic and spices like cumin. There’s different ways to make falafel and garlic and cumin may not be specifically necessary however I’m only making a suggestion on how to elevate the dishes. They lack herbs/spices (not picante spices) to take them to the next level. The average tourist will surely not mind or even notice. This place however seems to target a more switched on demographic, like knowledgable travelers and foodies who would most likely notice.

I forgot to mention there’s a beautiful black resident cat hanging around adding to the experience. There was confusion when we arrived despite having a reservation, there was a long queue but nobody attending it. We waited for 10 minutes until another customer just completely walked past the queue and went to the bar so we did the same. Once we got to the bar we told them we had a booking and they took us to the table without waiting which was very strange and made us feel off about having to wait for 10 minutes on the stairs without anyone attending the queue. That definitely needs ironing out, the experience of customers arriving for their...
Read moreWe had an amazing experience at this restaurant, easily home to the best burger on the island. We ordered the double smash burger, which came highly recommended by our server—and it did not disappoint. It was perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and accompanied by a small but delicious salad and crispy chips. We also took the server’s advice and paired it with a Tropical Sin Filtros beer, which complemented the meal perfectly.
As a starter, we shared a nacho plate that came with four unique and delicious sauces, making it a great way to kick off the meal.
To wrap up our late lunch (or very early dinner), I had a cappuccino—and I must say, it was one of the best I’ve had on the island so far. I was initially skeptical because it appeared to be topped with cinnamon powder, which in my experience has often meant a disappointing coffee. But in this case, it turned out to be chocolate, and the taste was rich and smooth with an unexpected but pleasant smoky note.
Before we left, we ordered a Tinto de Verano, a refreshing and lighter alternative to sangria that I would definitely recommend.
The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambience was excellent—lush, green, and almost jungle-like, creating a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere. There were plenty of tables, so availability shouldn’t be an issue.
The only thing I didn’t personally enjoy was the burger bun, as it had a slightly sweet note that didn’t quite match my taste. That said, it may simply come down to personal preference, and others might really enjoy that flavor profile.
All in all, this spot is a hidden gem that blends quality food, great drinks, and a relaxed vibe. Highly...
Read moreWhere do i start? It was as if I found paradise. After walking the west coast for days I asked in town where I could get a good hamburger 🍔. La Sombra was the answer. When I found it I was elated. Seated amongst the Lush greenery, surrounded by bamboo in comfortable seating I enjoyed one of the best burgers of my life, a thick juicy double smashburger with bacon, cheese, French fries and a salad. I could've stayed there for hours relaxing, nursing my lemon 🍋 beer. As good as the food was the staff and the service was superb. I showed up with a huge backpack but they got me seated as soon as possible in a gorgeous corner. The food was cooked perfectly, not too long of a wait and everyone was extremely friendly despite the place being packed. They checked up on me asking if everything was OK, did I want anything else? I've had dreams about the place. I'd go there just for the hamburger but Betancuria is a cute little village. Im so happy I stopped there and will return. Thank you for the wonderful...
