TAVERNA-GRiLL — Restaurant in Betancuria

I read only the bad reviews so I understand what are the challenges, I don't know who reads the 4* reviews :-)...but this is a way to give feedback and say thank you to the team in the restaurant. First comment: do not confuse with La Sombra - they look like sharing the same space. 5* Food was excellent, big portions which have been shared between myself and my wife - goat in the oven with spices and potato was amazing in the taste and texture; the other dish the "secret" of grilled Iberian pig - that is always a matter of taste and I like more fat grilled meat, for both myself and my wife this was a top grill, I see people are sometimes complaining is to fat, for us it was excellent and perfectly grilled. 5* Portions are really large (at least what we have received looked like very easy to share), we have wasted the salad and side dish (fries) 5* I read in the bad reviews about waiting time longer than 30', we have been addressed and served in due time (not too fast nor with delays), our choice is to avoid the main stream of customers and come either before that or after that - in this case we arrived after the main stream, couple of hours before closing 3* Be prepared, this is not a cheap restaurant- EUR83 for 2 people to leave with a highly satisfying late lunch 1* Very disappointing that they...

We were making a tour of Fuerteventura, taking us from El Cotillo in the north to Costa Calma in the south, and back. We decided to stop halfway in the lovely small town of Betancuria. From the parking area there is a small footpath that leads to the centre of town. It was lunchtime so we were looking for a restaurant. The place that immediately caught our eye was Taverna Grill. There were beautiful purple coloured flowers and there was a wooden balcony that offered great views over this small historic town. The manager, a very friendly lady who spoke English fluently, told us about the daily special which was a T-bone steak to share. It was served along side a hot skillet, which allowed us to grill the pre-cut and pre-barbecued pieces to our own liking. It was delicious. The chips on the side were excellent too. For desert we had something called Grandmother's cake, and it was delicious as well. I decided to have an espresso to prepare me for the drive ahead and that was, again, top quality. Worst service ever, and worst food ever. Meat was overcooked (I asked for medium and it was black), full of flies and really not an enjoyable place. Waited 15 minutes to be seated when there were tables available, an other 15 minutes for the order to be taken and over 30 minutes for the plates to be served. Waited again for the empty plates to be taken away, as it never happened we left the table and paid at the bar directly. I worked in hospitality, and really one of the worst service/food experience of my life. Knowing the prices are really high. I will never be back, and definitely not recommend it.

Le pire service jamais vu, et la pire nourriture jamais vue. La viande était trop cuite (j'ai demandé une viande à point et elle était noire), pleine de mouches et vraiment pas un endroit agréable. J'ai attendu 15 minutes pour être assis alors qu'il y avait des tables disponibles, 15 autres minutes pour que la commande soit prise et plus de 30 minutes pour que les assiettes soient servies. J'ai encore attendu que les assiettes vides soient emportées, comme cela n'est jamais arrivé, nous avons quitté la table et payé directement au bar. J'ai travaillé dans l'hôtellerie, et c'est vraiment l'une des pires expériences de service/alimentation de ma vie. Sachant que les prix sont vraiment élevés. Je ne reviendrai jamais et je ne le recommanderai certainement pas.

El peor servicio y la peor comida. La carne estaba quemada (pedí medio hecho y estaba negra), llena de moscas y realmente no es un lugar agradable. Esperé 15 minutos para que me sentaran cuando había mesas disponibles, otros 15 minutos para que me tomaran el pedido y más de 30 minutos para que me sirvieran los platos. Volvimos a esperar a que se llevaran los platos vacíos, como nunca ocurrió dejamos la mesa y pagamos en la barra directamente.
