Ignore the BS review recently shown by a so called local guide. You will notice that every other review is excellent ! This place was highly recommended by English and Spanish alike and when Spaniards wait to get in a place you know it is good, they don’t like waiting ! Been here twice in two days. Didn’t disappoint. Husband said the tortillitas camarones they’re famous for were best he’d ever had. Sadly they’re not gluten free but there are loads of gluten free options on the menu which is clearly labelled for allergens and the staff are allergen aware. The chicharrones were heavenly as was the carne al horno. Boquerones en vinagre, morcilla de hígado (white pudding), jamón bellota (best jamón there is) grilled marrajo fish in garlic and parsley oil, and patatas aliñadas were some of the absolutely delicious gluten free/lactose free/egg free options all naturally free from those three allergens and of course there is plenty of traditional fried fish (not gluten free) which all looks delicious. All you have to do is put your name on the list and wait then enjoy the atmosphere. Staff are great, so friendly and helpful, even offered to take my hubby to watch the tortillitas being made as he ordered so many. Not the cheapest place to eat but worth every penny. Top quality traditional...

I have seen this restaurant when I was watching Rick stein ( weekend away ) program few years ago ! The images I saw got stuck in my head and I promised myself that one day I would visit Casa Mantega and I would try the tapas selection. So the opportunity arrived and today we were able to seat there and I knew exactly what to ask for ! We order the selection of tapas as you can see in the photos associated with this review . The names are hard to remember but images speakers Lauder and i just showed the waiter the dishes I wanted to order and it came in due time ! The shrimp fritas and pulpo was the best in our opinion but to be honest everything we eat there was absolutely to die for ! The place was super crowded and we were placed in a waiting list and as soon as a table was available we were seated and we saw dozens of people just waiting patiently to be seated . We sat outside and the days was just perfect for the fresh breeze but inside is very authentic and very welcoming ! The atmosphere both inside and outside is absolutely buzzing !! Definitely I will visit Taberna Casa Manteca when I am back to Cadiz and I hope I can...

Yeeeaaa .... No thanks. This place proves that the most popular isn't necessarily going to be the best experience. We were torn between this and another place with 10 percent of the number of reviews (still a lot) and a better rating and just flipped a coin and came here. Guy who managed the line was nice polite and professional. Sat at the bar and it was all sorts of chaos with people leaning into us and yelling orders into our ears. The one bartender served everyone's food around us, given it's tapas and likely already ready to go. Even the same items we ordered were being served to those who came way after us (we were 2nd to be seated). When I asked where our food was the bartender with the goatee just had too much pride for himself and gave me reasons but lo and behold all our items suddenly come right out. I'm sure it wasn't on purpose as there would be no reason for that but instead of the attitude and excuses just bring out the food and apologize to a paying customer. At the end when I requested another beer the same dude refuses so we just paid and left. The food was good but nothing to...

We enjoyed our meal here but perhaps our expectation was too high. It’s crazy busy, this was our second attempt as the first one must have been in a cruise ship day because there was no room anywhere inside or out and people were spilling out into the street. We gave up the first time (it was around 1:30pm) The next day we happened to be walking by around 2pm and it was much more reasonable. We waited a few minutes but eventually got a table inside. The drinks were good, we got red wine and a glass of sherry. We ordered 5 tapas but only got 4 and one of them was wrong. We wanted the chorizo but got the dried fish instead. It’s so hectic inside that we decided not to make an issue about the wrong tapa or the missing one. We didn’t really enjoy the dried fish one but our hearts were set on the chorizo. The other 3 were excellent. We got the seasoned tomatoes, the “great” cheese dish and the shrimp pancake. We would come back again. The atmosphere is pretty cool as well.
