On many occasions we are asked what if anything do we miss about the US. Our usual response is that of course we miss family and friends but over the years we have come to really miss good, tasty, authentic Mexican food as there were no Mexican Restaurants in Calpe. Now that has all changed! A little over a week ago an authentic Mexican Restaurant, Hola Mexico, has opened in Calpe. It is not Tex-Mex but rather a real Mexican restaurant offering authentic Mexican dishes. We dined there last night and we were pleasantly surprised and most pleased.
We began our dinner with refreshing Margaritas along with a small serving of chips and guacamole. The guacamole was delicious with diced pieces of tomato and onion. For our main dishes I had beef Flautas covered with green sauce, lettuce, fresh cheese and sour cream. Mary Lynn Seaby enjoyed the Green Chicken Enchiladas with gratin cheese, sour cream and refried beans. Since I prepared for this dinner by having a light breakfast and no lunch I was hungry so I treated the plate of three Flautas as a starter!
We had already ordered Ceviche with our Margaritas and were told it would take about 20 minutes for the lime juice to “cook” the shrimp and fish so after we finished our main dishes the Ceviche arrived. It was delicious along with Mary Lynn’s second Margarita and my glass of Sangria. With the Ceviche I also tried a small serving of Hola Mexico’s Classic Nachos with gratin cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. I really was hungry !!
Needless to say we were very impressed with the culinary skills of Chef Pedro Zapata and will frequent Hola Mexico as there are many more dishes on the menu for us to try. Hola Mexico is located on Calle Delfin and we highly recommend it for truly authentic...
Read moreWe have tried all the Mexican restaurants in the area and I mean all of them. Hola Mexico is the BEST. We are from the most southern part of Texas along the Mexican border and this is as authentic as it gets. The Mexican breakfast makes you shout the Mexican gritó and their menu has amazing selection. For lunch I usually have the Carne Asada Burrito it is a meal in itself. Pedro, the chef, makes an amazing crema that he generously spreads all over your food. It is is to die for. For special occasions I order the Filete a la Tampiqueña. Marinated steak, fork tender along with an enchilada, a smaller roasted corn on the cob with the fantastic crema and rice and beans. The staff is amazing and treat everyone so special. We go there at least twice a week and the staff have become like familia. Viva Mexico!! Pedro es un tremendo chef. Erica makes the best tres leches cake. Jessica serves all customers excellently and treats us so well that it makes us feel like we are the most important customer they have. Worth the short walk, right of the pasadero over the tram. ...
Read moreAbsolutely the best restaurant in Calpe. Sadly, we only found it 2 nights before we had to leave. The food is incredible. Every dish we had was amazing. The first night we had the guacamole, prawn tostada, chicken enchiladas and vegetarian enchiladas. The second night we had the traditional nachos, the ceviche, chicken fajitas and the fish tacos. Everything was amazing. We also had the traditional margarita and the tamarind mezcal drink. The owners are beautiful people. He is the chef and she is front of house. So kind and lovely. The waitstaff as well is also so lovely and kind. They made us feel right at home both nights. I’m sorry I didn’t get anyone’s name, but everyone was so hospitable. Can’t wait to come back to Calpe and eat here again! And dance 🙌🏼....
