Casa Cantares. — Restaurant in Calp

This is an honest english review for the tourists that want to eat here in Calpe. This place is the place that usually comes to mind to the locals when suggesting a place to eat, and as such, it doesn't dissapoint. The atmosphere is very relaxing and comfortable and the staff is very kind to the customers.

The food tastes delicious and the ingredients are always fresh. If you come here you should consider trying the "arroz a banda" as it is one of the best dishes here. There is also seafood available, if you are into that sort of food. They also have options for meat lovers and the desserts are great.

Whilst we have eaten all around Calpe but we have never eaten at this establishment. We have stopped before for a drink. We decided to go there for supper and expected bar type food and were very pleasantly surprised to find we were wrong and served some excellent plates of restaurant quality food. All the dishes were excellent and very tasty and perfectly cooked. The menu includes a lot of local fish dishes and rice dishes. The decor is very functional but I would not let this distract from the food, which is moderately priced and superb Spanish cuisine. We will return to try some of the other dishes...

Comimos mi mujer y yo. Fue al segundo intento ya que el primer día nos transmitió buenas vibraciones y la comida tenía muy buena pinta, pero había que esperar mucho para una mesa en terraza y, al ir con nuestra bebé, veíamos más cómodo comer en la terraza, por lo que volvimos al día siguiente reservando. Materia prima buenísima, sin duda. Tomamos zamburiñas, tortitas de camarón, cigalas y gambas cocidas de entrante y un arroz meloso de rape, gamba roja y almejas. Las zamburiñas bien (aunque una de las dos con un calibre demasiado pequeño para su precio), las tortitas de camarón muy muy buenas, las cigalas y gambas muy frescas y ricas, y el arroz realmente muy bueno, aunque realmente era más caldoso que meloso. Por último reseñar que el trato de los camareros y la jefa fue muy agradable hacia nosotros, si bien se notaba cierta tensión entre ellos. Lo cierto es que en dos ocasiones recriminó a los camareros unos detalles que, efectivamente, había que corregir, pero aunque se haga con una sonrisa y sin maldad, no me parece correcto hacerlo delante de los clientes.
