The rain is lashing down and the temperature has dropped 10 degrees when we arrive at El Bodegon. The welcome, however, is warm and the restaurant is a real surprise. It is like the tardis as it is substantially bigger than you would imagine from the outside. It is also very attractive.
The menu is varied and a similar price to many others in the vicinity. We had mixed Hors d'ouvres to start which were excellent, my wife had veal cordon bleu which was ok and I made the mistake of ordering rabbit casserole. It was obviously a very skinny rabbit which came in a nice garlic sauce and served, rather strangely, with chips and nothing else. Why oh why do most restaurants in Spain never serve vegetables which are prolific in the markets and very rarely any other form of potatoes other than chips.

Read moreIt's our last night before going home so we decided to try a different restaurantthan those on the beachfront. As Calpe is a Mediterranean fishing town we decided to try a Mediterranean restaurant. El Bodegón de Calpe did not dissapoint.
My wife had the melon and ham, which she said was delicious followed by the muscles.
I had the Mixed Fish Grill. A lot of fish!
We both had dessert that ways scrummy. We kind of wish we had found this place before our last night as they had quite a few meals we would have like to try.
