A major miss for my first Indian food. I feel that the best way to experience India is to go and visit India itself.
So for the tl:dr of this review: They don't understand English well, seem to have a rude demeanor when people take pictures, and offer a high cost for the half-baked experience.
So I have never had Indian food, minus those packs of chicken tandoori you can get at the store. So while I was only semi-enthusiastic about going, it seemed like a good thing to try. So I will be writing this review for my meal in particular, however referencing other people who were in my party in this review.
So I ordered the lamb tikka as mentioned in the pictures. The sauce was delicious and very tasty, however I must say that I wish that there was more sauce than what was offered. They offer a small sampler dish for you to try and have them adjust the spice level of the sauce.
The lamb was very delicate, however somewhat dry. It was also covered with a red spice. I have no idea what it was and while a simple Google search could answer my query, I prefer not to know. I ate the lettuce that was underneath the lamb (although I feel it was just for decoration) and it was okay, although offered a weird aftertaste.
Finally, onto the drink. I ordered a margarita! First, they brought out a pizza! Secondly they brought out a.... I have no idea! It tasted like a spiked strawberry lemonade (i think like a strawberry dacouri). It wasn't anything like what I wanted! So.. All in all, what about the price?
It was 125€! WAT!?! Nonono. That is simply unacceptable for what we ordered. I was very upset with the price of the meal. I paid for my alcohol separately so it wasn't those mistakes that cost the bulk. Ontop of the bill the attitude of the manager who took our phones from us when we were taking pictures and took the pictures for us (my photos excluded due to Google EULA's).
So from America with some love I give this restaurant a slightly...
Read moreAttention waiters are cheaters! We placed an order for two dishes, the waiter started saying something under his breath in an incomprehensible mix of English and Indian, using the word rice and a large plate to share. We said okay because we thought that they meant that they would serve rice on one large plate to share like in every good Indian restaurant. It turned out that they brought us the most expensive appetizer that costs the same as the entire dish on the menu (which we only found out when we saw the bill). On the bill we also saw a charge of almost 4 euros for a portion of rice because they themselves decided to serve us the most expensive rice on the menu without asking if it was okay and without informing us about the possibility of choosing. We see in the negative opinions that many people write that this restaurant cheats with prices, so we do not recommend this place. waiters pretend to be very nice and then they use the fact that someone likes them and cheat their customers! During the whole situation we don't even remember the taste of the dishes - only the bad taste of the situation of ripping off the customer for costs remained. It doesn't matter how nice you are in response - you cheat your customers and that's a fact! We were fooled by your smiles and you lulled our vigilance. I see that you reply to every negative opinion that you care about the well-being of the customer because you have such great opinions on google and other sites - this is not a response to CHEATING PEOPLE WHO CHOOSE YOUR RESTAURANT AND WANT TO PAY YOU FOR THE SERVICE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE - CHEATERS...
Read moreA small restaurant with lots of authentic Indian decoration throughout. We were first in, having taken the walk from our hotel near the marina blown along by a strong wind (no jokes about the way back!) We passed many restaurants on the way but had our heart set on Trip Advisors No.1 restaurant in Calpe! It is situated just off the front on a small road with a couple of bars as neighbours (both closed) The waiter was welcoming and drinks were served immediately while we looked at the menu and then chatted to our waiter. My choice, a Cobra and the wife a Rosé wine. I stuck to my favourite, a Chicken Vindaloo while my wife had her favourite, a Chicken Tikka Masala, accompanied by rice, naan and poppadoms. Just before the meals were served we were brought over a small amount of our chosen sauce to confirm if we wanted it spicier or milder. I've never had that before! Both were great flavour though, being me, I asked for my vindaloo to be a little spicier! The main dishes were served in candle heated holders which was a nice touch, and there was plenty of rice with a good size naan each! Our waiter was attentive throughout and we were pleased for the restaurant to see a few more tables arrive while we were eating. Stuffed, and unable to manage a dessert, we asked for the bill and were offered a shot of limoncello which we gratefully accepted. A small pot of aniseed sweets were brought with the bill and we were pleasantly surprised to see it come in at just over €40 which included my pint of Cobra and 2 glasses of wine. Well worth the 20 min walk for us and one of the nicer looking eateries we...
