El Gaucho — Restaurant in Capdepera

My wife and I popped in here for lunch a few days ago. I went for the burger and wife decided on the calamari. They said the calamari was a small portion but she stuck with it anyway. When the food was bought out we were both surprised at both the quantity and quality of the food. The burger was the best I had tasted anywhere. Juicy, tender, fresh and cooked to perfection. Wife’s calamari was also cooked to perfection, and you could tell that it was really fresh. Overall a great meal and very reasonably priced. Going back there for another meal before we leave after seeing the large bull chops on display in the fridge along with other cuts that look amazing. People are too quick to complain on these sites, when any issues can be resolved at the time. I’m sure if the people moaning about the meats not being cooked as ordered had bought this to the attention of the staff before eating it all, the staff would have happily resolved the issue!! The staff were very attentive, friendly and were more than happy to explain the cuts of meat, and show us the selection of food you can choose from. (Even chucked in a free caramel shot at the end of the meal) Great food, fantastic service and can’t wait to return - 5 stars...

Everything I am writing now is based ONLY ON MY EXPERIENCE. Those of you who were satisfied or whatever, keep your opinion to yourselves! I repeat, I am speaking only from my experience. I ordered a Caesar salad, and the chicken was undercooked and not fresh. I told the waitress, and she called the manager. She said that's how the salad is and that it’s supposed to be good like that. She said they would grill the chicken again... I didn’t agree and didn’t want to eat a ‘remade’ meal. I work in the gastro industry, and I know exactly what happens to food when it goes back to the kitchen. Although I didn’t eat the salad, the manager was very rude and still put it on the bill.

As a customer, I had absolutely nothing to say, and the manager was explaining to me that the chicken needed to be redone. So she decided for me that the food was fine and that I had to eat it as it was. And let’s not forget, we are talking about a salad here, which is overpriced anyway, not a steak or fish.

It's a shame; that’s why I’m giving you only one star, and I will never come back.

I've eaten here twice in the past couple of weeks with family and friends (the one on Cala Agulla road), and I can honestly say that the food is absolutely fantastic and the service was friendly, attentive, and simply perfect. The first time, we all had entrecot, each made to perfection according to our individual preferences. The second time it was similarly perfect, but we had different steaks. The T-bone (chuletón) in particular was beyond amazing, so tender, juicy, and delicious. They brought a tiny grill to the table as it's so big, to ensure it would be at the right temperature when eating it. Wow.

We didn't have starters, but we did try the focaccia (Italian pizza type of bread with spices), and it bodes well for the next time when we might try their pizzas. :)
