LOS CHAMACOS Taquería Mexicana — Restaurant in Castelló de la Plana

After hearing its praises sung by the Michelin Guide, I can’t believe it took us this long to try Los Chamacos Taquería Mexicana. As avid lovers (and self-proclaimed connoisseurs) of Mexican food, my partner and I were thrilled to finally experience what this charming little spot has to offer—and it absolutely lived up to the hype!

The staff were phenomenal—friendly, attentive, and impressively quick. Their warmth and efficiency added to the joy of the experience, making us feel right at home from the moment we stepped in.

We started with a trio of appetizers: the croquettes, the quesadilla, and another dish whose name escapes me (but whose flavor certainly doesn’t!). Each one was crafted to perfection and packed with bold, authentic flavors. Then came the real stars of the show: the specialty tacos. Juicy, flavorful, and downright addictive, these tacos are a must-try for anyone who loves Mexican cuisine.

For dessert, we indulged in both the aguacate dessert and the aguacate cheesecake. Each bite was a revelation. The dessert was playful and refreshing, while the cheesecake was incredibly creamy and decadent—a flawless end to a meal that was, in a word, tremendous.

The restaurant itself is a true reflection of its roots: small and long in the classic Castellón style, but bursting with vibrant colors, welcoming energy, and authentic Mexican charm. We have 10.30 reservation at this restaurant Yesterday but unfortunately due to dificulty of finding a parking spot we came late 10 minutes. We alwete almost at the door when they called and told us they cannot accept us anymore because we are already late. But I cant u deratand when we do the reservation it says we have 1 hour and a half to enjoy our food So meaning they closed at 11:30 or so. But for christ sake of 10 minutes late they denied us out meal. I am 4 months pregnant and for me this so unacceptable and will never forget this. I waa craving for their food even have my husband drive as fast as he could. I cried walking trying to find something to eat i was waiting all day for my husband to get out of work and all day looking at the fotos in instagram for they meal and imagine how much food we can eat and food we will order for take away ao we can have late snack at home. How I hate this now Its so pathetic of me to write it out here. But I just cant help it. If we cannot dine out atleast ask is nicely or offer us if we would want the food for take away atleast.......

Habíamos reservado para cenar aquí, llegamos 5 minutos antes de la reserva por si acaso, aun así, una hora y media después todavía no teníamos mesa asignada. Nos sentaron en el local de al lado y dijeron que nos invitaban a la primera ronda de cerveza por las molestias (al final nos las cobraron igualmente). Cuando por fin nos sentamos y pedimos, tardaron media hora en servirnos el guacamole y otra media en darnos 7 tacos (uno menos de los que pedimos).

Sí, la comida está muy buena, se nota que tiene calidad y saben hacerla. No sé si la cantidad era poca o me lo parecía, porque dos horas esperando la cena da hambre.

El sitio tiene potencial, cuando solucionen los problemas de logística que tienen, como aceptar más reservas que mesas. Hablamos con los camareros, son conscientes de estos problemas, ellos no tienen la culpa, pero hay que priorizar la calidad de la atención a la cantidad de personas que intentas abarcar. Por desgracia, no creo que vuelva ni voy a recomendarlo.

Edit: Quiero agradecer de antemano que se me haya respondido. Para dejar claras algunas cosas, la reserva no la hice yo ni voy a poner en un lugar público el nombre de la otra persona por razones obvias. La visita la realizamos el sábado 7 de enero, teníamos reserva a las 22:00, a las 23:30 nos sentaron, a las 00:00 recibimos por fin el entrante, a las 00:30 los tacos y salimos del local pasada la 1:20 de la mañana. Añado el ticket para ayudar a otras personas a valorar y por si el número de factura ayuda al propietario a identificarnos sin hacer públicos datos personales.

Edit 2: Por su puesto se nota la calidad de la comida y de la cocina pero, de nuevo, eso no es excusa para darle mesa a gente que no tiene reserva o para aceptar más reservas que mesas, o no entiendo el motivo de no tener mesa durante una hora a pesar de la reserva. Tampoco tiene sentido que intente acusarme de mentiroso con cada actualización de la reseña. En ningún momento dijimos que queríamos mesa dentro, es más, la reserva era para terraza. Cuando el servicio nos propuso comer en la mesa del otro local estábamos molestos, como cabe esperar. Si esa era una opción podrían no habernos hecho esperar una hora. Ahí fue cuando nos sentaron en una mesa interior. De nuevo, no le veo el sentido a mentir en cada respuesta a esta reseña, buscando la culpabilidad del cliente. Estoy seguro que ha sido un caso aislado dados el resto de buenas opiniones, pero entre el trato recibido en el local y aquí, definitivamente no volveré ni lo recomendaré a...
