Habana — Restaurant in Chiclana de la Frontera

Well, my experience over quite a few years has been mixed with regards the Habana Restaurant. When it is good it can be pretty good, and other times it can be awful. Last night we decided to try it again. Checked on the website to make sure it was open and at what time. It is posted on their website it opened at 20:00 hrs. So, we arrived at 20:05 and it was deserted with just tables outside. We decided to pass some time, and then noticed at around 20:15 there was a waitress, (with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth) setting out chairs around the tables. OK we though, a little late but they will be opening. By 20:30 the place looked around ready, so we went in and sat down at one of the tables. The waitress who was obviously not happy with our promptness asked what we wanted to drink. We asked for the menu where we abruptly told they did not serve food until the chef arrived at 21:00 There was a bit of a language problem, but I enquired why their website advised they opened at 20:00 but did not advise they do not start serving food until 21:00 In reality, if the chef did arrive at 21:00 he certainly would not be in a position to start serving food at that time. I expressed my annoyance, where I was told “I am just a waitress, if you have any complaints come back and see the owner in the morning” There was most definitely a "couldn't care less" attitude. Service was good from despite the reviews on here. Ordered drinks first then food at around 9.30pm. Bread and breadsticks but no olives. Variety of tapas was very good and came out when done. Burgers and fried stuff came later. Would be a solid 5 stars however toilet lacked maintenance had no seat in the mens and there were no tissues of any kind. Good menu and friendly service. We like their breakfast scrambled egg and bacon served on toasted molletes or pan. The falafel are also very good. They have a varied menu and a seafront view of the bay and island. It's a lovely place to have a meal or just a beer or coffee and watch the world go by. Prices are very reasonable....
