PATA NEGRA MENORCA — Restaurant in Ciutadella

Came in May for tapas because I notice the near to 5 star rating. We originally ordered 6 tapas items but was immediately told by the waitress and chefs "it's too much" and they refused to let us order all those items. We were confused because we were paying regardless so why weren't we allowed to order what we wanted?

I really wanted to try some Menorcan exclusive tapas so I asked for a recommendation from the 6 items we wanted. The waitress knew we weren't Spanish speakers and took advantage of that and wrote down whatever she wanted in Spanish. At the end we didn't even know what we were ordering so the food came to a disappointing surprise. We were given a very basic patatas bravas and chicken wings. Something we could've gotten anywhere. I looked around the restaurant and noticed all the other tourist were eating the exact same thing, wondering if they were also tricked. we left extremely disappointed as we really wanted to try different new foods but I guess were "weren't...

On the whole the food was good but the anchovy dish (which had some smoked sardines on it anyway) and the smoked sardine dish were very similar and both served on a huge pile of crisps which didn’t add anything whatsoever and then the waitress told us not to bother to get both! Make the dishes more different to each other by serving one with tomatoes and olive oil and the other with salad perhaps! At present it feels like a missed opportunity! However our main issue was that there was only 1waitress for the whole restaurant! So service was a little slow! We had to ask several times for another glass of wine which had been forgotten. Then on our second request for the wine we were told to wait 5 minutes! We had almost finished our meal by the time it came! Then two couples sitting near us waited over half an hour for their bill and we had to wait almost as long too! Hire another waiter/waitress and I’m sure this problem would be solved! Very abrupt staff. Visited in April 2024. On our first night we arrived we just wanted drinks and was told that we could sit but only outside. This was fine and understandable. However on the next night we again just wanted drinks so sat outside only to be told very abruptly to leave. There were spare tables inside and outside. We only wanted a quick night cap and would have left within 15 mins leaving the table free for further custom. I understand that the restaurant needs to make a living and food is their core business, however telling customers to leave in an abrupt manner has lost them a future customer especially when there were several tables free inside and outside.
