Ulisses Menorca — Restaurant in Ciutadella

After eating dinner at our hotel we decided to head to Ciutadella for drinks. While strolling around the streets my wife spotted this place. We weren’t sure at first whether they would expect us to be ordering food, but there was a few spare tables so we decided to sit down. It appeared to be a mix of people eating or drinking glasses of wine, coffees, etc. My wife said she might actually like to try one or two of their tapas. We sat for at least ten minutes without being noticed, then I managed to get the attention of a waiter. I asked for the tapas menu, in my best tourist Spanish, then he abruptly said something in response that I didn’t understand, so I said, ‘no entiendo señor’. He responded in perfect English, ‘did my boss say you could take this table?’ I told him there is no sign saying, ‘please wait to be seated’. He then marched off to check that we were allowed to be there. The tables are out on the street, it’s not a dining room. He returned five minutes later, no smile, with a generally unfriendly demeanour, and put menus in front of us. I only wanted a coffee, my wife was going to have a glass of wine and maybe try their cheese selection. When he returned to take our order, still acting like he didn’t want us there, we told him what we wanted, he just gave us a blank expression, then looked at me and responded, ‘Americano’, as if to say, ‘is that all’. At that point I decided we were leaving. I’ve only ever walked away from two establishments in my life…this was one of them. He asked what the problem was, and why we were leaving, I told him, ‘because you’re rude’, unfortunately I didn’t know how to tell him in Spanish, but now I’ve learned a new phrase…’Eres muy grosero’. 😂 I’m not sure what his problem was, but I don’t think he should be working...

Don’t normally write reviews, but this experience took me by surprise. Cannot comment on the food as we didn’t get that far (!). The restaurant looked promising as was very busy, but unfortunately the service was bad and staff were rude.

We were put on a table directly in the sun, which was hidden away from view as it sat to the side of the restaurant. That was absolutely fine, didn’t mind, but after about twenty minutes of waiting, a woman popped her head around and asked if we wanted anything. We said we were there for food and drinks and got called crazy for wanting to eat in the sun, and then did not see her again. Eventually, I got up and went to engage a waiter. A friendly waiter said he’d be over, but we did not see him. Instead, another waiter came along and shouted vamos, drinks, go, vamos! And we said ‘we’ve been waiting for ages’ only to be confronted by the rude waiter trying to hurry us (!). We were too shocked to even carry on, so decided to leave and ended up at Lavella which was lovely and the staff, food, exterior and interior were so nice, highly...

Horrible service, bad experience:

I visited the restaurant today with my family. We called several times to make lunch reservation yesterday and today in the morning, and the service informed us that the reservation should be done via WhatsApp. After sending a message via Whatsapp we received a reply that they don't do lunch reservation and provide services at arrival. When we came to the restaurant around 13:30 and we saw free tables we assumed that we can have lunch there, but they told us that it is impossible to have lunch because they are fully booked (once again: we were told that they don't do lunch reservation). After asking what's the deal and why we were informed with different information the waiter started to be very rude to us speaking in a loud voice. By the end he just left us at the door without appointments. We are absolutely disappointed with such...
