Chiringuito El Faro de Villaricos — Restaurant in Cuevas del Almanzora

While the location is admittedly beautiful, that’s about the only thing this place has got going for it… The staff prey on foreign tourists. They hand you a menu and once you order some of the less expensive items, you’re told that “unfortunately these are not available today”. You’re then escorted to the kitchen where you can choose something from the fridge (conveniently filled with only the most expensive items on the menu). This is how we ended up with a bill of around 180 euros for 2 people. Afterwards I discovered some friends of mine had had exactly the same thing happen to them… Nothing about the food or drinks was good enough to justify this exuberant price. All in all, I cannot discourage people enough from visiting this place. I highly recommend supporting any one of the - much friendlier and much fairer priced - quality local...

Pongo una estrella porque no se puede no poner. Fuimos a comer cuatro personas a finales de agosto, recomendados por uno de los comensales que había comido ahí el año anterior con una persona que conocía al dueño. Íbamos por el pulpo y por la lubina salvaje, así que ni siquiera vimos la carta. La lubina que tenían era pequeña, así que nos decantamos por la lubina y una gallineta. Al poco tiempo sale el dueño y nos dice que lubina no hay, así que pedimos gallineta para todos. Lo primero que salió fue el pulpo: duro y grasiento, nada que ver con la vez anterior. A continuación viene el dueño y nos dice que se ha equivocado, que nos ha hecho un gallo Pedro en lugar de la gallineta. Mi cara debió ser un poema porque no necesitó ni contestación, así que se volvió a cocina para hacer la rectificación (NUNCA me había pasado nada por el estilo; lo lógico hubiese sido asumir el error y no preguntarnos). Pero bueno, pedimos mientras tanto otro plato y pan (el pan aún lo estoy esperando). Cuando llegó la gallineta parecía que había salido de la freidora de un fish and chips: incomible por la grasa que tenía. Al final pedimos postre, y la cuenta. We had a fabulous meal late afternoon today. The waiter was a local man, excellent with his attention and service. Wonderful food, we had fresh fish, local icecream , cannot fault it. It isn't cheap, but the location is fabulous too, so I notice some say they would not return as more costly, but the whole experience is what to look at. I wouldn't miss it, find out for yourself.
