Tea & Chocolat — Restaurant in El Sauzal

There are not many places where people can speak English in the Tacoronte area, but this is one of them. When we first arrived on the island and didn’t know any Spanish, it was very comfortable here because they understood us.

The café offers a large selection of pastries and cakes. Although I eventually became familiar with many of the options, I still had questions, and he people who work here patiently explained each item to me, answering all my inquiries about the cream and dough.

By the way, this café is popular with locals, especially in the evenings from Friday to Sunday. It's a good idea to either make a reservation or be prepared to wait in line.

This café is a delightful corner of comfort in the city. It is located in a beautiful building surrounded by lush greenery. When I walked in, I felt as if I was visiting a cozy country home. The café features interesting chairs, small tea tables with wrought iron legs, soft pillows for comfortable seating, and warm, inviting table lamps. The decor includes various teapots and cups displayed in cabinets, and your order is served on floral-patterned plates.

While it can be noisy in the evenings, it’s perfect during the day for sitting down with a cup of tea and a book at a table by the window.

This café is likely the only place on the island where you can enjoy a wide variety of delicious teas rather than just coffee. People come here primarily to drink tea. As a tea lover, this spot is firmly on my list of favorites.

In addition to an array of teas, the café also offers savory dishes, such as sandwiches and pancakes with savory fillings. However, its specialty is definitely sweets.

The selection is extensive and varied. My favorites include sweet crepes with strawberries, butter, and honey, queso con limón, brownie cake, and crème brûlée.

After seeing fantastic reviews about this place we decided to stop and eat here. Although my partner said the hot chocolate was to die for the coffee was just ok. It's cute with romantic ambient lighting and if you like a vintage tea room style you will be at home here! complete with dolls houses on the shelves around you and fairy lighting. Although the portions are a generous size the flavour was bland and lacking seasoning. The chicken was obviously frozen at some point chewy dry fibres but also wet with canned mushrooms used inside the crepes. The mince meat was plain with very little or no stock used an little to no salt. No table sauces offered or displayed but the cheese was nice and plentiful. It was very busy when we went but it was night and day difference from being asked 3 times just after being seated if we was ready to order to actually waiting over 10 mins to find a waiter to order. The wait to pay the bill was also a long one so much so that we got up and went to the counter to pay ourselves in the end. Hacía mucho tiempo que no iba, pero he ido 2 veces en este último mes y las 2 veces me ha decepcionado muchísimo. Lo recordaba mucho mejor. Para empezar, no hay ningún tipo de orden en la entrada. Muchos esperamos educadamente a que nos asignen una mesa (se entiende que están ocupadas), mientras que otros se “cuelan” y no hay ningún tipo de respeto por los demás, y como digo, nadie controla esto. Por otro lado, la primera vez tuvimos que levantarnos hasta 3 veces “suplicando” que nos cogieran la comanda, pues solo hay una persona de camarera. Mientras tanto, detrás de la barra hay 4 personas haciendo cafés y sirviendo dulces, cosa que no se entiende, ya que las elaboraciones que se llevan a cabo ahí son rápidas y sencillas y pueden realizarlas menos personas, y sin duda, fuera hace falta más personal. Por si esto fuera poco, tardaron cerca de 20 minutos en traernos 2 cafés y una tarta. Estuvimos a punto de irnos, pero la verdad es que habíamos acudido allí con ganas de merendar, así que esperamos. Tras este hecho, decidimos darle otra oportunidad, pensando que aquella vez tendrían un mal día. Sin embargo, no fue así. Hoy hemos vuelto, y hemos pedido un té con unos “scones” (dulces), y un café. Nos llegaron las bebidas (olvidándose de la sacarina y tuvimos que beberlo sin endulzarlo porque no venía la camarera), pero los dulces jamás llegaron. Hasta 3 veces le preguntamos a la camarera y nos decía “eso ya se los trae mi compañera”. ¿Qué clase de respuesta es esta? ¿No se supone que trabajan en equipo? Queda muy feo echarle el “muerto” a tu compañero de trabajo, pues deja ver que no hay ningún tipo de comunicación entre ellos, o que incluso puede haber “mal rollo”, y eso da una imagen muy mala de cara al cliente. Y aunque fuera cosa de tu compañera, acude a ella a ver si pasa algo con la comanda. La misma respuesta recibieron otros comensales, e igual de nefasta les pareció, ya que nos miraron con cara de no estar entendiendo nada. Tras 40 minutos de espera por unos dulces que no tienen apenas elaboración, decidimos irnos. Todo esto se lo comunicamos al chico que nos realizó el cobro de la bebidas, y la respuesta que nos dio es para flipar: “Lo sentimos, igual es que se cayó la comanda por el suelo y se perdió” (????????????). Igual esto fue algo rápido que se le pasó por la cabeza para salir del paso, pero fue una respuesta que no mostraba ningún respeto hacia nosotros. Lo peor de todo es que la camarera que nos había atendido escuchó todo, pues estaba al lado de él dándonos la espalda a nosotros, y no fue capaz de girarse y disculparse. Y lo que es peor, tampoco fue capaz de ayudar a su compañero, que estaba recibiendo la crítica él solo (habiendo sido ella la que nos atendió). Esto solo confirma aún más la falta de trabajo en equipo (o eso es lo que dan a entender al cliente). Es una pena, porque uno de los camareros que está en la barra sirviendo dulces se ve que le pone mucha dedicación a su trabajo y es un señor muy amable (el que tiene gafas), pero el trato de los demás deja mucho que desear. Lo hemos hablado con otros amigos y opinan lo mismo, pues han tenido experiencias similares a la nuestra.
