Alas it was all going so well... we took all of our friends here... and then Philip showed his true colours.

On our very first visit, he said "Sure guys, if you want to reserve a sunbed, just take my number and let me know."

Fast forward several weeks and we were back, now residents in Estepona and looking to spend many happy weekends here.

As we left, Paul (my hudband) approached Philip to reserve sunbeds again for the following week.

He was summoned away from the bar and to the side of the premises, where he was told "Yeah, I can reserve you a bed. But have you ever heard of tipping? And I don't mean €1 or €2, you get what I'm saying?

Well actually, Philip, no I don't.

Your prices are already inflated compared to the many other premises you compete with and, quite frankly, your veiled threat to tip when we had to find you for service (you never came to check on us) is a joke.

This is Spain.

You're paid a wage and unless you go above and beyond usual service standards (which you clearly didn't) to ask for a tip is a downright cheek.

Thankfully, we have found several much better options (I suggest Beach Central where the staff actually care, and not just act like they do) and therefore have no want or need to ever visit your...

Skewered Seafood Sensations and Paella Perfection!

Let's be real, folks. When you're in Spain, it's not just about the sangria and siestas (though those are pretty great too). It's about the seafood! And Chiringuito El Madero serves it up in a way that'll make your taste buds do the flamenco. I recently shared an epic feast there with friends, and it was the kind of meal that makes you want to learn Spanish just to properly thank the chef. The prawns, dorada, and sardines were all skewered and grilled to perfection, Malaga-style. The prawns were so plump and juicy, I almost expected them to start singing a sea shanty. The dorada was so tender and flavorful, it reminded me why I love fishing so much (and why I should probably go more often). And the sardines? Well, let's just say they were proof that the best things in life come in small, oily packages. And let's not forget the beer. It was so cold, it could have given a polar bear brain freeze. So if you're looking for a place to experience the best of Spanish cuisine in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, Chiringuito El Madero is the place to be. Just be sure to bring your appetite and your stretchy pants. You're going...

Absolutely best place in Estepona.

First time coming here we ordered calamares and octopus. Both were great taste, perfectly baked, one grilled and the other baked on bbq, served with a good garlic sauce. Portion was so much we could eat enough even the next day. Best thing was they asked to take away to have no waste The rhum cola was also served nice because they asked wich one and how much rhum I wanted in my drink.

Second time we ordered jalapenos redonos con queso y guacamole, never had that before, and was the best choice, perfect combination. Also ordered gazpacho andalusia, top class taste as well. Third dish we asked was the paella, tasted smooth and not too dry as in other places.

Really great place with a beautifull bar, nice view and sound on the seaside, chill relaxing music. I could even mention the toilet was super cool. Staff also very frienly and thoughtful.

Only thing I could say is to make more publicity to make shure to be fully booked on a friday night as now, this place is perfect.

Thank you and see you next time

Henri...

EDIT: I have been to the hospital and it’s was confirmed we have food poisoning. My 7 year old daughter is still sick and suffering. We were 6 people at the table and only the 3 of us ate the pasta we ordered. The rest of the group were fine. Also it is not noro virus as that is extremely contagious and everyone is our party would have been sick. It’s only me my husband and my daughter. The only people at our table who ate the pasta. You should be ashamed of your self and I will never set my foot in that restaurant in my life. I am seriously looking where I can make an official complaint again you. This is unacceptable. I’ve never seen my daughter so sick Made a booking 2 nights ago for dinner. Everything was fine, food average but after we got home all of us felt sick with food poisoning. So please beware of you think you would like to book this place.

We did not eat here, we only went for the beach but we left in an hour. It's crowded, the beds are crowded, in front of the water there are many people on towels or with their own chairs and umbrellas, so it's not a private beach, kids are screaming in your head, they don't give towels, it's like a circus. If you want a decent beach, avoid this one.The only good thing i have to say is the guys at the entrance were extremely nice, friendly and attended us very fast. Plus, the water was dirty, (not that this is their fault) but in that area of the beach, i have seen paper towels in the water, all sorts of plastic packaging and a night before it was a storm so all the algae smelled terrible being brought at the shore. I really hoped for a peaceful decent experience, but unfortunatelly, this was not the place.
