Excellent food and location! If you want to eat dinner there, make a reservation or you probably won't get a table.
That's the short of it. But if you want the long review, stay tuned.
I ate at Bocasalina twice, once dinner and once lunch. The pictures below are from the dinner. We started with the Foie Gras (served on bread with a wedge of fig). It was garnished with 2 berries one of which, I've never seen before. It's the blueberry looking fruit. It's just a little bit bigger than a blueberry but taste nothing like one. A quick image search returned Whole Plum that's local to Belearic Islands. I'm still not sure what the correct name for it is but if you see it, try it. It's a tasty little fruit. Back to the starter, it was really fantastic. I'd order this again and again.
For our main we ordered lobster paella but the waiter misunderstood and brought us the seafood paella. After I informed him, he quickly place a new order so we had to wait a bit longer. No big deal; it's a lovely restaurant and there seems to be a lot of lovely people that eat there, so the wait didn't seem long.
When our paella arrived, it was good but it didn't blow me away. I wanted more socarrat on my paella and more shell taste in the rice. Also, the rice was just a tad undercooked. I'd say it needed another minute or two and half ladle more of stock. Maybe crank up the heat just before serving to crust up the bottom a bit more.
I try to remain objective because a lot of people order the paella so it's hard to make it perfect for each customer. I hold nothing against the chef(s). He/she/they are superb but my search for the perfect paella continues.
My wife had coffee ice cream for dessert to finish our dining experience.
During our dinner, which spanned at least two hours, I watched the Jamon maestro perform surgery on that beautiful ham. He'd slice a few pieces and sharpen his knife. Slice a few more and sharpen again. The whole two hours. You can see how much respect he has for that Jamon and his craft. It was beautiful to watch. I took a picture of the gentleman so you can thank him when you see him.
We had such a good dining experience we went back a few days later for lunch. My wife started with the oysters and she was blown away at how fresh and sweet the oysters were. They give you a wedge of lime for each oyster and that's it. She said that was the best she's ever had and she's had a lot. I know, I paid for all the previous orders.
We both chose the spaghetti with clams. When it arrived, I noticed the pasta was just slightly underdone (super al dente) so maybe that's a thing here. No biggy, I prefer super al dente over overcooked pasta any day. It was so delicious I ordered another one. I just wanted that pasta. My wife ate the clams. We work as a team.
She got the ice cream again and my dessert was that second order of pasta so I was done.
I don't have photos from the lunch meal because I shot videos with my GoPro camera instead and I won't be able to upload them since they're 5k videos. I may try to edit this later and add photos extracted from the videos. Believe me, they looked amazing.
So now it's your turn. Give this place a try. You can...
Read moreThis has been the most unpleasant experience I have had , food wise and service. I have never written a review, but this one is NECESSARY. The food took 3 hours to come to the table, the food was impossible to eat: terribly salty fish, uncooked meat, and the pasta was disgusting to say the least. The rudest and most unpleasant waitress, zero recomendations from the waitress, always rushed, we always had to serve the wine ourselves and simply NOT WORTH IT. Please do not waste your time coming here. Do NOT come here to eat. Heads up, the manager, chef or waitress could not care less if you had a good or bad experience. We ordered a HUGE fish which was IMPOSSIBLE to eat and NO ONE did anything. The chef nor manager came out to show their face; they were not even willing to try their own fish that could have killed us from a heart attack to say the least from how salty it was. No one was willing to give us a new plate after we were starving for 3 full hours waiting. They just want you to pay and leave from the moment you walk in. Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE restaurant. I will never be back here and I will make sure no one I know whom travels to Formentera come to this restaurant after this experience and the manager's unprofessional and uneducated reaction...
Read moreThe food was really good and had a good quality. A bit pricey though. Seems like they really want to be luxury but the definitely don’t behave like that. The hostess was absolutely unpolite and not able to do her job properly. Also she greeted us really unfriendly and they rushed us during our time there as we were supposed to leave the table after 1,5 hours. Out of experience I can say that usually the give you at least 2 hours. View is nice but the welcoming wa absolutely terrible therefore we wouldn’t return. I think they can do better and maybe they should hire people that like to do this kind of job, in regards to the hostess. They should also teach their waters what they are serving. When I asked the waitress if in the dim sum there is mest or fish she said that she is not sure and that she has to ask the...
