Pizzeria La Cantina Del Gladiatore — Restaurant in Fuencaliente de la Palma

Update 17 June 2025- We were again on the south end of La LaPalma so we stopped in again for lunch. Just like last time, the pizza was fantastic and service was extremely friendly and helpful. No doubt we will be back next time we are in the area!

We stopped in for lunch during the eruption of Cumbre Vieja. Because of the volcano, most of Fuencaliente was completely without power (and even the cell towers were out so there was little to no internet access) and as such, the only menu options were things that could be cooked in their wood fired oven. Even so, we wanted to support the small businesses in the area, so we had lunch. WOW!!!! We were not disappointed. The pizza was absolutely amazing. And wood fired pizzas tend to be a hit-and-miss thing since it can be difficult to get the heat right (we have found many times the crust ends up being burned when the top is just starting to be done). Not here- the older gentleman (owner I think) made it just perfectly. Any he was a pleasure to talk to. This is somewhere we will absolutely return to (and hopefully get to try some of the other...

Servicio muy lento, trato lamentable y la comida nada de otro mundo, tirando a mala.

Hemos llegado sobre las 15h porque estamos de paso. Preguntamos si tienen sitio para 5 personas y dice que si. Nos esperamos 10 minutos fuera y nos sientan en la mesa. Para empezar la mesa estaba pegajosa pero lo dejamos pasar porque tenemos otras prioridades.

Aquí nos traen la carta, también pegajosa, me molesta por todo el tema covid pero lo dejamos pasar.

20 minutos más tarde nos toman nota. Esperamos, esperamos y esperamos pero no llegan ni las aguas.

Una del grupo se levanta para preguntar si nos podrían traer al menos las aguas y la ensalada que ya llevamos 1h 15min esperando y aquí es cuando el dueño/camarero/el que cobra salta a la defensiva diciendo que ya nos había dicho que iba a tardar (sin especificar que tardaria mas de 1h15min) que si no nos gustaba que nos fueras, eso gritando.

Después de eso el otro camarero (muy amable por cierto) trae las aguas y las ensaladas intentando arreglar el erros de su jefe.

Otra vez viene el jefe gritando diciendo que si queríamos que fuera más rápido que viniéramos antes. Así gritando 2 minutos.

Decidimos pasar del tema y no nos vamos porque estábamos muy hambrientos.

No les quedaba ni la mitad de los platos y cuándo llegan son proporciones muy pequeñas, igual que las ensaladas.

Básicamente lamentable todo. (me sabe mal por el pobre camarero que intenta hacer las cosas bien).

Los platos caros para las proporciones que han traído. Pagamos y nos vamos.

Para acabar decir que el baño está sucio y sin jabón y lo digo por el tema covid.

If you in Los Canarios do not walk past this restaurant! Myself and my partner walked in here by chance, and after spending two weeks on La Palma this is the finest food I have tasted. The flavours and aromos are a testement to the owners experince, with the service being down to earth, well rounded and complete. Despite my lack of italian, the owners manner was friendly and welcoming, and he displayed a true dedication to his craft.
