Very nice night Gijon. We are visiting from Girona but live in the US. We know good Indian food. Sadly this place was underwhelming. Service was nice. Ordered the chicken samosas and they came out hot on the outside and ice cold on the inside. The server took them and returned in a few minutes with a new set and they were somewhat better, but still slightly cold in the middle. My wife enjoyed hers because she doesn’t mind a little cold and she didn’t mind minced chicken. However, I would not eat mine. I ordered the chicken biryani and to say that I was disappointed is not even a word to describe it. There was no salt used. I couldn’t taste any Garam masala or Indian spices at all. I’ve never seen strips of bell pepper used in chicken biryani before. I ordered medium spicy and because there was really no flavor I can’t even attribute a spiciness level to this dish. My wife’s chicken tikka masala was very good. The garlic naan was excellent. I ordered the raita to accompany the meal. Unfortunately, it looked like it was almost curdled. They were nice enough to remove the chicken biryani that I wasn’t going to eat from the check. Overall, I can’t say that they’re 4.7 star reviews are accurate. The main reason for two stars overall it’s just that I was really looking forward to a nice chicken biryani and wound up my...
Read moreLike some other honest reviews, we also found that the food didn’t live up to the ratings. We’ve dined at Indian restaurants more than most people who leave reviews, including in various countries, and even cooked Indian food ourselves at home. Unfortunately, this place stood out as the least authentic based on the dishes we tried. The chicken tikka masala and butter chicken were hard to believe as traditional recipes – they mostly tasted like flavored milk. Even the naan was off from the typical flavor you’d expect.
I think many reviewers may not have as much experience with Indian cuisine, and because the portions are larger than average for the price, that might be influencing the higher ratings. To us, this felt more like an entry-level spot for someone looking to try Indian food for the first time, but without the intense, authentic flavors.
We are fluent in both English and Spanish and although service was good, the communication here was a bit awkward.
If you’re looking for an authentic Indian food experience, I’d suggest trying somewhere else or sticking to local cuisine. There are better options in Madrid for a more genuine...
Read moreIt's hard to find a really good authentic Indian restaurant when you don't live in a big city like, Madrid or Barcelona, and I've been missing it so much. That's changed since Tandoori has opened! The best Indian restaurant in Gijón! The moment that you step inside the restaurant and smell the spices coming from the kitchen you know that you're in the right place!! The staff is incredibly nice and they speak both Spanish and English. As we're fluent in both, he asked me which I was more comfortable speaking in (which was very nice) and it ended up just being a fun conversation between both!
The price is perfect for both the quality and quantity! Everything was DELICIOUS and we left very full and satisfied. There are so many options for all types of tastes and they even have a vegetarian menu! I cannot wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!! It made me very nostalgic of when I used to go out with my family for Indian food in New York.
100% recommend this place! Great food, service, location...
