My partner and I very much enjoyed food at two sidrerias of Tierra Astur in Oviedo so when we arrived in Gijon, we went straight to Tierra Astur again without a second thought.
Unfortunately the food at this location is not comparable to that in Oviedo. We ordered the octopus rice (see the photo below) but it tasted unbelievably bland. At first we thought it was just the Asturian way of cooking seafood rice (after all it's not Valencian paella). But we got to confirm that the food quality control has some serious problems at this location after we went to El Restallu, a restaurant also in Gijon known for its seafood dishes, where the seafood rice tasted amazing.
We did reported the issue to a manager on site after we paid the bill since the octopus rice cost us more than EUR 40 (!) And we got a "thank you for telling us." Afterwards we also reached out via their customer service online and asked for possible refund. But all they could offer was food voucher, which is of course useless to us as we don't live in Spain and don't plan to travel back to Asturias anytime soon. We hence reluctantly post this negative review here to warn anyone planning to go to this place.
PS: The tortas at this location were also not as good as those in Oviedo. Here they made it too thick. The location at Aviles had the same problem. So we think Tierra Astur should really go through some food quality control examinations on their locations...
Read moreGreat restaurant experience. Friendly and ample staff -except at the door where they are kept very busy- which is friendly and offer advice for a better experience. Best idea is to call ahead for reservations because this place is extremely popular. Expect half hour waits without a reservation. Food is very tasty here for an American pallette unlike most places. The area and restaurant are known for their cider. Cider contains 6.5% alcohol by volume and is poured PER DRINK. The pour is performed by the staff by holding the bottle high above their heads and pouring the drink into your glass which is typically held below their waist. Important: the drink must be drunk immediately after being handed to you as the cider will lose its taste within ..... two or three seconds after being poured. Staff will then keep walking by and serving up the consequent pours until your bottle is empty. Buckets are used to reduce spillage during the pour and at other times the pour is made directly over the floor which is covered with what seemed like some form of saw dust or chips. Menu is very ample and meals can be had for under €10, €15, and €25-€35. I was in town for one day and the restaurant was the highlight of my...

I recently visited "Tierra Astur Poniente" and, unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The service was subpar from the start. The staff seemed uninterested and inattentive, barely acknowledging us when we arrived. It took an excessively long time for someone to come to our table and take our order, which was just the beginning of a frustrating evening.
After placing our order, the wait for our food was incredibly long. We sat there for what felt like an eternity, watching other tables who arrived after us being served first. When we finally inquired about the delay, we were met with vague and indifferent responses.
By the time our food finally arrived, we had lost our appetite. The entire experience was marred by the long wait and lackluster service. I would not recommend [Restaurant Name] to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience. There are plenty of other places where you can enjoy good food without having to endure such poor service and...
