We stayed for a weekend in late January 2023. Clos Figueras was a very comfortable place to stay. We had the room at the end with a sitting room. Everything was very clean. It was off-season. When we arrived there was a couple enjoying a wine tasting on the patio and the small bodega was open. After that brief window of activity, it felt deserted for the rest of our stay, not only in the hotel, but in the village as well. Ironically, we struggled to find a place where we could buy wine late Friday afternoon, but finally found an open co-op where we bought two bottles of Onix wines (very good and reasonably priced). Again, I expect this is a seasonal issue. We ate dinner at the hotel Friday night, and the young man who had checked us in seemed to be the lone cook, waiter and dishwasher. The meal was a bit of a disappointment and the prices were high, but the convenience of eating at our hotel was welcomed after a long day’s travel. Breakfast proved to more of a bright spot. Dolores was the server/cook, and she did, as another reviewer said, “give her best.” Great tortilla and pan de tomate. We packed a lunch from the leftover bread and enjoyed breakfast again the next day before returning...
Read moreReally contrasting level of service depending from the staff you are meeting. Check in experience was fine and the room minimalist but in a good shape and nice view. Highlight of the whole stay was the wine tasting with Miguel: you can see and feel his passion. Dinner was disappointing in terms of level of service. If you are selling Priorat as a quality area you can’t leave the service to inexperienced people. Furthermore the atmosphere needs to be improved (i.e. no music). Surprising as well that with half restaurant empty you are allowed to choose your table. Good point of the dinner: lamb croquettes, delicious. Tbone steak was just ok. Breakfast is basic but good and the lady in charge gives her best. Check out too impersonal for a...
Read moreThe wines were excellent but the tour and tasting pretty unfriendly. We were greeted as if we were a bother to the young lady. During our tasting she didn't provide any real insight into the wines other than what was a prepared statement. All that could have been brushed aside if we had not been left wondering where our guide went after presumably serving the last wine. So, when we went to pay for our tours, we were told that our guide had left for the evening without saying goodbye or thank you. Worse yet, the restaurant staff was not surprised nor apologetic about the situation. So, go if you must, but do not expect a warm greeting a warm visit or a warm goodbye.... Or...
