Best free tour I've been on in a while
First the minor negatives. It's not immediately clear that during opening hours the tours, and the gate, don't open until on the hour. Graciously there are large parasols to keep those waiting out of the sun. Also, there is a large adjacent dirt parking lot. It's not clear if this is their property as no signs. We parked there. Car was still there when we got out.
Admission is free. From the outset, they identified English speaking tourists and ensured that as much as possible the guide spoke to the group in English.
First there's a 15 min Spanish video giving a history of Valor, the chocolate company. Even if you don't speak Spanish, you get the gist.
Then there's a narrated tour of an oldy worldy style chocolate outpost. Lots of photos, lots of history.
Then you get to see the factory. Like birds eye view of the labs and packaging floor. Fascinating. The end of the factory has some impressive sculpture which appears to relate both to Aztec culture and the Valor chocolate company.
Then the tour finishes in the shop with reasonably priced chocolate to purchase and what looks like an endless supply of free samples. Not bad for free.
There's an old style carrier truck in the lot as you exit to top off the tour.
Family enjoyed it. Easy walk after into the town.
Recommended. Good way to spend an hour....
Read moreIt was definitely worth a visit. We took our granddaughter on Christmas Eve, a great way to start the day. The tour began at 10 am and lasted about forty minutes, and guess what, It's free 😁 A very informative tour, in Spanish as well as English, check on their website for the time, day for the language you prefer. It's a great insight into when Valor originated, the method of drying, roasting the beans 🫘 grinding them to a fine powder, adding various ingredients, plus secret ones, then melting and making lots of different and yummy 😋 flavours of chocolate 🍫 Don't miss an opportunity to visit and at the end of the tour, you can taste free samples before purchasing something from the made in heaven chocolate store...
