Last week Wednesday, my partner Viola and I went to La Cantina. It’s situated slightly out of Malaga centre in an area called Las Chapas. After walking through the local neighborhood, which was very desolate during siesta, we arrived just a little past 15:00. Our table wasn’t ready but we were late as well. No problem – we were offered a cold drafted beer and could wait outside in the alley. After acclimatizing from our walk, Pepe called us in. The menu was an oral account of what wasn’t and what was still available today. No print. Bring your Spanish, I would say.

It’s a bit out of the way for the normal tourist but for someone who loves seafood, a good ambience, and attentive service it is definitely a place to go. A fun and worthwhile experience! Moreover, Christof, the cook came around to ask how everything was. An important notice: Christof and his daughter make an excellent craft beer called ‘Carl & Daniel’s (see photo), which reminds me much of a good Belgian geuze – with lovely notes of citrus, ginger, and gin. Perfect with a set of gambas a la plancha.

If you are in Malaga, go there! The cheesecake for desert is a tip. Muchas gracias Christof, Pepe, and...

we have been in Malaga for 2 days already, so had a bit of experience with the local tasty food, thanx to google :) To “ La cantina “ we came for lunch by the high recommendation of my brother, the restaurant was on the way to the airport so we let it on the last day. Just to say that it was amazing is to say nothing - it was very tasty, fresh, unique - no words will be enough to explain how good all the food was ! If you visit Malaga and you are into really tasty fresh and local sea food - you should definitely go for it ! Thank you to all “La cantina “ family for this unique...

One of our best experience in Spain. Hidden gem outside of touristic area, full of local people. Very friendly welcome by one of the owners, and we got extremely fresh fish: shrimps, tuna and squids. Dessert and top white wine completed the experience. I would go there again and again. Very worth to walk 15-20’ in a residential area outside of the city center (well served by bus though). Thanks a lot for having us there!!
