How to ruin a good meal with poor service and greed…
Hello folks; today am reviewing this popular restaurant in Madrid. Been wanting to come for quite some time and had (mistakenly) build too high expectations and purposely didn’t read any of the previous reviews. Always manage your expectations… and this is a clear case. After sitting down in our table things soon started to surface. Specially the poor unprofessional unfriendly service. Slow, unpleasant, probably with little or no training at all on how hospitality and customer oriented industry works. Part of the whole experience is how the face of a restaurant makes you feel. “Face” being everyone that works and serves at the premises as well as the staff in the kitchen. And one out of the two stars am giving them is for them! Yes! The kitchen team does an excellent job. See, the kitchen compared to the total business space of the restaurant is relatively small. And this tiny space is crowded, probably uncomfortable and surely really hot (specially when it’s 97f outside) so the star goes to them because they managed to deliver the food on time and made right. And that’s where the other star goes. The quality of the food is fantastic, it actually was a great meal, and I wanted badly to give all the stars but that was about it regarding the good news. Here comes the check and we noticed the early “tapas” were far from complimentary and they do charge for it. If you don’t want them I guess you can tell them to take them back? However, given the logic of the management you might as well enjoy since most probably they will charge for it. Staff recommended to order half portion of the starters, which we followed, then we realized they don’t apply the logical math of: half-the-portion half-the-price equation to all their dishes and ended up paying more to the already inflated prices of this place. All in all, I think am being too generous with my 2 stars here and I will definitely NOT come back since the overall experience was far from pleasant due to the terrible service. By the way… tried to understand the logic behind the math of the half portions with the manager and the explanation was just hilarious. Pure greed in my opinion and based of my experience (which you can see on my profile it is not little) Try not to get disappointed coming here. They are at the low end of their...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer for the past 5 years. I have always been treated with respect and the same goes for the service. Unfortunately, things were different today. My girlfriend and I were having some tapas sitting outside in the terrace. We finished about 13:40, and she was going to continue eating with her friend in the same place. As I was leaving, Mr. Carlos Oria, a worker from Cañadio told my girlfriend and her friend in a very rude manner that they only had about 10 minutes to eat Pinchos outside in the terrace, otherwise it will have to be something from the Meñu. After, my girlfriend and her friend proceeded to have some tapas, and then they asked Carlos Oria, for a dessert. He, once again in a negative response said (if you want to eat a dessert, you must go inside). They didn't want to go inside, so he brought the check without even asking them if they were leaving. My girlfriend and her friend were treated poorly and felt discriminated against. Not to mention that my girlfriend is Asian and her friend African American. I only hope that this was not a racial issue, otherwise this will have to be consider as a racial discrimination. I wasn't going to file a formal complaint, but when I spoke to the Manager and he denied any bad treatment towards my girlfriend and her friend, i knew i had to do something, and even what's worse, is when Ruben Prieto the Manager tells me ¨I don't know why you are filing a formal complaint, you know that nothing is going to happen to us¨ As soon as he told me this there was no going back. So I asked for a complaint form. It took 40 minutes for them to give me one. I highly recommend people not to go to ...
Read moreIn order to spend as little time on this as the waiters spent with us I will try keep this short. We were served a small aperitiv of a sip of soup and some baked rolls together with our starters, which was nice. However before finishing, meaning there was still food left on almost all our plates, the waiters were already ready to take it away. Only after explicitly telling them that we wanted to finish our food (very weird behaviour indeed), they decided to give us some more time. This, although, didn’t mean they wouldn’t already serve our main dishes. Again, we told them we would like to first finish our starters. After around 10 minutes when we were ready to take our main dish, we were barely enjoying food of medium heat. To put a cherry on top, as we received the bill we realized that we were charged for the aperitifs served at the very beginning. Upon asking we were being told that those are obligatory. Unfortunately the food was lacking quality on all ends and couldn’t even slightly make up for any of this. All in all: If you like a speed date, are not a great talker and like to spend a good amount of money on not so good food - I fully recommend. Very disappointed, as it looked like a...
