Great Food, Sour Taste Left Behind
This Argentinian steakhouse (with a British Sunday roast twist) offers truly excellent food. Weâve eaten here several times since they opened and brought along various guests, always impressed with the quality across the board, from the perfectly cooked steaks to the fresh veg, tasty sauces, and generous starters (and great Yorkshire puddings). The portions are hearty, the atmosphere light and welcoming, and the drinks list well stocked. Weâve always spent well and tipped generously, because we genuinely appreciated the experience.
Until our last visit.
We ordered tinto de verano prepared with lemon. The first round came from the machine â not ideal, but we didnât complain. For the second round, we politely clarified the request for it to be prepared with red wine and lemon soda. What we received was a regular portion, heavy on the ice, and on the bill, each one was charged as a glass of wine and a bottle of soda. That might have been technically what was used (likely split between the drinks), but the pricing felt inflated.
I quietly mentioned this to the waitress, expecting perhaps an explanation or adjustment. Instead, I was curtly told I didnât understand how they do things, and that theyâd "do me a favour" and change the bill this time, but next time I should know better. The tone was condescending, even vaguely threatening. Given this same waitress had previously been overly familiar in manner, it felt like a complete shift in tone.
Itâs a real shame. The food is arguably the best of its kind in the area, but weâre now torn about returning. When service turns from friendly to dismissive over a polite query, it leaves a bad taste, no matter how...
Read moreWe had lunch here last weekend following many excellent reviews and Wow what a place to eat. We opted for the English style roast dinner, a good benchmark for us to judge. We had a reservation and on our arrival were shown to our table and made comfortable. Drinks were provided promptly and we were given ample time to make our selection. I went for roast beef and my partner for chicken. Throughout the experience Alonso, Paul, Elisabeth and the others were wonderfully attentive with attention to detail and nothing was too much trouble. The star of the show arrived, the food. Oh my god. The beef was cooked perfectly, pink in the middle and melted in my mouth, the chicken also excellent. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and included a divine cauliflower cheese and puree swede. The roast potatoes crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle. Possibly the most difficult skill to master is Yorkshire puddings. They were absolutely spot on. The desert was an excellent banoffee pie and a white chocolate cheese cake. The restaurant was clean and immaculately decorated with a superb ambience. But the star of the day the beautiful food was just like eating Michelin star food. The price at about 30 euros per head was great value for a drink, main course, sweet and coffee. We were so impressed we have booked for New year. Alonso and the team you...
