This restaurant is absolutely filled with sports memorabilia, autographs, family photos and other collectables. It's a treasure trove and is worth visiting simply to take a good look at everything displayed. The manner in which it has been displayed has clearly been done with as much love, effort and time as establishing the collection must have been. The owner is obviously, proud of the restaurant interior (and exterior) he's created and rightly so. Whether or not it is to your taste doesn't change the fact that it has been created with passion, it exudes that passion and deserves recognition just for that. It's as much a museum and art gallery as it is an Italian Restaurant. Unusually, everything that can be, is Branded. The chairs, table cloths, napkins ... there is no mistaking the Brand and this is a good business choice for a restaurant. So many miss the opportunity to add this element to the customer experience. One aspect of the interior that is such a great choice and is an element missing from 9 out of 10 restaurants, even hi-end luxury restaurants. The chairs! They are so comfortable, you can (and we did) sit on them for hours and not give them a second thought because the comfort envelops you. So often, restaurant seating is constantly in the customer's mind because it is completely the opposite. The location is excellent and the views from many of the tables is great. The service is polite, attentive, knowledgeable and yet unobtrusive. The restaurant was quiet considering the large number of covers it has, but it was indeed busier than many of it's local comeptition. Keeping this in mind, there were plenty of staff to ensure that all customers received the same level of service. A couple of customers that needed to smoke, were even asked to move a little further away from the outside tables; which we thought was nice to see happen. To the food. We had 3 excellent starters: garlic bread, Buffalo Mozzarela and Avacado with Prawns. Prosecco. All good no complaints. Our main courses were 2 different stories. One of Canneloni with spinach. Absolutely full of flavour, presented well and very tasty. The other was roasted lamb. Lamb plays a significant role in Italy's culinary Traditions and should be a good choice in an Italian restaurant and I was looking forward to a succulent, fall-off-the-bone leg of lamb. In the end it had been overcooked (suggesting it had been roasted a little too early before service began). It was quite dry and had to be prised away from the bone. I should say that even so, I ate it all, it wasn't inedible, but I'd be disappointed and surprised to discover that a chef from Italy had cooked this. I ate all the lamb for several reasons: the sauce was very nice. I was offered a good mint sauce which also partially negated the dryness of the meat. And also, my wife was really enjoying the Canneloni and I didn't want her enjoyment spoilt by asking for the lamb to be changed or to order a replacement meal. But, this certainly wasn't Lamb at it's best, as it should be in an Italian restaurant. I think if I'd spoken to the owner, he would also have been disappointed, his passion for his restaurant was clear in all other respects, so he will also want authentically cooked Italian food to be served to his guests. I did tell the waiter and whilst he did mention to the kitchen, nothing further was said to me, no apology, no offering ... nothing. I suspect my complaint wasn't taken seriously, because I'd eaten it all and I suppose that's my fault. But again, I feel sure the owner would have wanted the issue dealt with a little more fairly. We had a bottle of red wine which was fairly priced and very good. took and used our own wine-aerator which, rightly, amused the staff and interested a younger member of the team to know what it was etc. Our visit to Il Capitano was a good visit. We will go again. I won't order lamb again, but there are plenty of other choices on the menu. Il Capitano is an unrushed, calm, entertaining...
Read moreWe have never experienced staff as rude as this. When the waiter came over to ask us what we wanted to eat, we told him that we would like a garlic bread to start, and that we were still looking at the menu to decide on our main courses. We were told this was unacceptable, and even after we asked politely if we could have a few minutes to choose, the waiter shouted at us and said that we had to order it all at once. When we said this was not okay, he told his manager, who came over to our table and rudely told us that we had to order all the food at the same time, and told us to leave if we did not. We could not tolerate this behaviour and left, but we were shouted at, being told to pay for our drinks that we had not consumed, and when we were leaving, we were threatened with ‘calling the police’. DO NOT EAT HERE. Doesn’t even...
Read moreRestaurant very nice decor but it is very expensive. We had a bottle of Dimante white wine that cost €18.50 and to our amazement when we got it we buy from Mercadona for €4.00 exactly the same bottle. The pizza we had was very wet and ordinary and very expensive. The pasta my partner had was very dry not enough sauce. On the whole it was very expensive and a ripoff. I told the owner about the wine his reply was they have to put the wine in the fridge, and pay his waiters incidentally there were far to many of them. I will not be returning to be ripped off buy this over priced restaurant again. So unhappy no tip left, never again. Reply to owners comment. Wow very unprofessional response owner just about sums it all up all he wants is your...
