Booked this hotel some weeks before we travelled and they were aware we would be arriving on a Monday evening (early February). Found the hotel and saw a notice saying restaurant was closed on Mondays. However everywhere was in darkness and the hotel door wouldn’t open. We tried ringing the number we had but it rang out and cut off twice. We were in the car park deciding what to do next when a Spanish gentleman, who spoke a little English, asked us what the problem was. After we had explained he said he knew the proprietor and would ring him for us. After he made the call he took us in through another door and went behind the reception and gave us the room key. He assured us there would be someone on reception in the morning. We found the room which was clean but small. The bed was comfortable but pillows were very uncomfortable, there was also no heating or control for the air con so we were rather cold overnight and there were no staff to rectify these 2 problems. We went into town for a meal and on our return the hotel was still in darkness and no one, guest or staff, around. When we went down in the morning there was still no one on reception and we saw another guest just pop his key in a basket so we did the same, leaving without being able to complain. The money for the night had already been paid up front as is often the norm with booking sites. Fortunately it was only for one night and not expensive. It was the strangest hotel experience we have ever had and rather...

Read moreVery old-school restaurant with good (not great), traditional Spanish cooking. Honestly, I don't understand why it is mentioned in the Michelin restaurant guide (and other more creative restaurants in the region are not). It raises certain expectations, that unfortunately where not met. - I understand that potatoes tend to come with every meat dish in southern Spain, but the imagination of this place doesn't seem to go beyond fries. Seriously? Dear Michelin testers, I am generally very happy with all your recommendations, but this restaurant is too basic and should be taken...
