PATIO ANTIGUO — Restaurant in Mijas

Horrific dinner. Our first red flag was being blatantly ignored when we stepped into the restaurant by the three waiters behind the bar. To sum up a terrible evening, do not bother wasting your time or money on this place. It is by far the worst dining experience we have had in Spain, if not ever.

We ordered drinks, the mojito was nice but upon inspection inside the glass, they used moldy black spotted mint leaves which left me without the rest of the drink. My partner ordered a koppaburg which they confirmed they could provide, and was then served about 15 minutes later with a magners and no apology or explanation. The meal was tasteless, bland, room temperature and in dire need of salt, pepper, any herb or spice possible. I mistakenly ordered the linguine which came with prawns, a packet sauce would be tastier and more fulfilling. My partner wanted to order the risotto but was told by the waiter with a blank expression that they could not do it, why? We couldn’t drive a rational answer out of him. He settled for the chicken which was a whole picanton and when it arrived, it was laughable. Dry, boring, flavourless and on a bed of what I can only describe as terrible tacky crisps? It described it as coming with vegetables on the menu and this amounted to a single charred slice of rubbery aubergine and two small green peppers, thats it.

We couldn’t wait to get out of there quick enough, and begrudgingly paid our €50+ bill to be free of the place. I am so confused why there are so many glowing reviews of this restaurant when I genuinely cannot give it a single compliment. I also need to mention that we waited around 15 minutes more to get the bill itself, and were handed another tables bill after all that time, the waiter eventually realised his mistake and ran over to take it from us and my only emotion was relief that we were not that table who were to fork out even more money than us…

Avoid, go to the Plaza close-by and enjoy...

Sorry but this is my first time to give only a star for a restaurant. The place looks very good, clean and creates a picture of a higher quality restaurant. We just said let's try. Staring the order was already strange, the waiter spoke like he already had some deeper looks into the glass, anyway put his confusion by side. My wife ordered pasta with shrimp my daughter mixed tacos and I ordered the beef burger. Dishes came quite fast so no problem, but the mixed meat tacos tasted already strange. In the pasta you could not see any shrimp besides of that, it even did not tasted like shrimp. But the desaster was the beef burger. The first version had some mold on the chadder cheese, the cheese was not melted and the burger was already semi warm to cold. Very strange. I returned the burger cause of clearly visible mold on the cheese, which I saw to late and ate some part of the burger. Very bad experience. In between the waiter came and asked me which burger I ordered? Confused? The second version of the Beef burger was as well awful, it had low temperature and the beef tasted very bad. 16 EUR for a burger, you can already expect at least decent meat. I couldn't finish it. Couple bites and again the bad taste this time it was the meet. In the end I complained when the waiter brought the bill and at least I was not charged for it in the end waiting 20 minutes for the bill. Restaurant is expensive and the quality of the food is very bad the service seams to be confused or worse. Worst restaurant I was ever in. Honestly avoid this place...

We went to Patio Antiguo yesterday. The setting is lovely especially the patio area at the rear. When we dine out we always look for 3 things which are setting, service and the quality of the food. We are not fussy people and are very tolerant and just like to enjoy experiences like eating out. Unfortunately in this instance 2 of the 3 things were below our expectation. What really spoilt it was our waiter who happened to be English. He was yawing whilst taking our order and his attention was clearly elsewhere as he seemed to be distracted and looking at other people in the restaurant. It also took him a couple of attempts to get a simple order correct ( 2 steaks but cooked slightly differently). Between our starter and main course he also asked us to keep our used cutlery which I would not expect from a restaurant of this standard. When the steaks came he gave us both the wrong ones as he couldn't remember which was cooked in what way. He was a bit of a disaster and clearly had somewhere else he would rather have been! With regard to the food, the starters were nice but the steaks were not cooked as we asked them to be and were not really up to what we expected ( quite fatty). Overall we were not overly impressed and the meal and service we had experienced the night before at another restaurant was much much better.
