Shakira 2 — Restaurant in Orihuela

The worst Indian meal I’ve ever had! Been here before and it was a great meal but sadly last weeks visit was awful. The starter of bhajis was ok but the main was terrible. I ordered prawn masala and naan bread, the masala sauce tasted exactly like tomato soup and ketchup, absolutely zero spice tasted and none seen in the dish itself. It was bland and absolutely tasteless. The naan bread was raw and limp. When I asked the waiter about this he explained that masala has no spice whatsoever, come onto, really?!! A weaning baby could have happily eaten this as it was just tomato soup and ketchup, no flavour at all. He explained that the naan bread oven takes time to heat up so that’s why my bread was raw! Wow!! I waited on a drink for over 15 minutes because the staff were all chatting at the desk, they didn’t come once to ask if everything was ok or if we needed another drink. DELICIOUS 😋!!! The best curry we have had in years! We had the set menu which included a bottle of wine. This was swapped for a jug of Sangria. The lime pickle was homemade and my partner scoffed the lot! We were even offered more! My starter of lamb tikka was "melt in the mouth!". We had the special Shashlick chicken presented on a sizzle plate with the sauce (made to taste) on the side. Definitely worth trying. The king prawn Adrak is a must if you like ginger! All accompanied by the special rice and naan. We couldn't eat it all and were given, free, containers to take the leftovers home. I go over to my Spanish house a few times each year. My visit would never be complete without at least one meal at Shakira. I could gush all day about this place - amazingly good curries (we often try to be adventurous and try new ones and we have never been disappointed), lovely sides, popadoms and dips, everything just perfect.
