Restaurant Espanya — Restaurant in Portbou

We had one of the worst dining experiences ever at Restaurant Espanya in Portbou. Our “lunch” dragged on for nearly 4 hours due to incredibly slow and disorganized service. It took 45 minutes just to have a drink order taken, then an hour for entrees, and another hour before the mains arrived – served at completely different times. Out of 9 people, 4 had finished eating before the rest even received their meals.

The staff seemed indifferent and uninterested. An extremely elderly gentleman (possibly the owner) wandered around interfering with staff in between chatting to his friend at a table, which only slowed things down further. His sidekick in an orange Hawaiian-style shirt sat at the table drinking and doing nothing.

To top it off, two people in our group reported that when they went to the restroom, this same man in the orange shirt was standing at the urinal in full view of everyone – totally inappropriate and unpleasant.

Overall, the whole experience was horrible: terrible service, lack of professionalism, and no respect for guests’ time or comfort. Definitely not...

Atè here yesterday Sunday arrived early 12miday plus points the tableach was nice house wine nice starter calamari a la plancha nice. Then..paella terrible ..cold overy cooked I am sure from day before and put in microwave dessert disgusting packet mix of creme catalan full of lumps and watery..service terrible waiter slipped piella a on plates half was on table and all most cold..asked for a simple scoop of icecream for dessert told no only a packet ice cream or disgusting creme catalan worst I have ever tasted both paella and creme catalan. .waiter when we and ked for coffee young guy so proberbly just started replied..later I'm busy...never andskedgain terrible sevice. We have been going to port bou for 15 years!!the restaurant next door our favourite has been turned into a snack bat /ice cream bar..big shame as was always simple but good. Stay away from this...

When my travel companion and I found ourselves in Port Bou for a couple of hours, we were not disappointed with the city and the setting there of. We walked by the beautiful beach and saw a restaurant, which was rather packed. We followed then common guide and thought that it being the only restaurant which had a lot people, it had to be good.
