Asador Casa Marton — Restaurant in Sallent de Gállego

Wow. Now that's a restaurant. We left smiling.

It got it all, great service(!), great(!) atmosphere, and then there's the food. A perfect balance of simplicity and sophistication. Traditional dishes are somehow surprising, but somehow kept traditional (in feeling). The meat is ultimately just meat, but somehow it's waayyy more tender and tastier than most (you'll have to go to Argentina to try and beat that, saying from experience. And no, they don't add MSG). It's just treated right, from conservation to preparation. The salad is just a salad, but it has a tomato ice cream on top (what?!!) and the vegetables are amazing for being amazing vegetables. And then back to service and atmosphere, it has the right balance of upscale and calm/casual feeling. Super kind and chill staff but 100% professional.

I will definitely come back, I actually don't want to leave...

If you like chuleton, this is your place: an elegant but never stuffy place with a beautiful coal fire where your meat is prepared by expert hands. I also highly recommend the cecina as a starter, which is perfectly complemented by shavings of local sheep's cheese. The trout tartar, on the other hand, was good but not outstanding (I did not really like the combination with the gin&tonic-jelly). Service was flawless, quick and happily answering any questions that came up. The highlight of the meal certainly was the meat, which was just spectacular.

Update: Went back a year later - still a great place! This time, and very unexpectedly, the borrajas with shrimp stole the show: the dish felt like a hug in a bowl! A close second was the merluza al estilo orio, just a...

Beautiful location and deco, fabulous food, and good service. If you are a meat lover and your are in the area, I would highly recommend to pay a visit. The food quality is superb. I am leaving a 4 in service as the water was not served, just left the bottle on the table, the arrival experience was a little awkward (we had a table booked and they made us wait for 5-10 mins despite having the dining room empty to decide where they will seat us…) and 10 mins waiting for the check.
