On a December 2017 walk along the port area, opposite the fishing boats, I was delighted to discover La Tarifeña Puerto, cafe-restaurant and bar. It was open and almost completely filled with people, so I walked in and ordered a cortado.
Apparently, there is a third La Tarifeña cafe-restaurant in the new area of Tarifa, but I failed to find it since it is a long walk from the old town and near a beach. The other is in the old part up the street from Cafe 10 (now my favorite bar, cafe and restaurant in this charming town.)
La Tarifeña Puerto is pleasant and modern, and except on cloudy days, sunlight pours in through the large plate glass windows, providing views of the fishing boats.
The day after I first discovered the restaurant, I returned in the late afternoon for another coffee and to use its excellent WiFi. There is an extra long velvet upholstered sofa against one wall.
La Tarifeña Puerto serves breakfasts, pastries, lunches, and early dinners. Beers, wines, and cocktails are also available. Hot and cold sandwiches, coffees and various teas, toasts, croissants, pastries, cakes, ice creams, freshly-squeezed fruit juices, and milk shakes are all on the menu.
It's an excellent place to stop in after your arrival or before departure from the Puerto de Tarifa. You can enjoy a sandwich, pastry, snack, ice cream, or just a drink or coffee, juice, or milkshake.
La Tarifeña Puerto has low background music, and there is a very large flat-screen television hanging on a back wall, but it is not loud or distracting, so you will be able to have a conversation while enjoying your food and beverage.
There are 17 tables outside, directly facing the fishing port, and some are sheltered from the winds and sun by glass barriers . Three have umbrellas and others an awning to shield from the sun. Or you can bask in the sunlight while enjoying your meal and drink.
Credit cards are accepted. The waiters and waitresses are all efficient, if somewhat very rushed at times. Be prepared to wait for service during busy tourist months.
La Tarifeña Puerto opens at 8:00 AM, and a variety of breakfasts are available and reasonably priced. My coffee was served in a large cup and was only 1.60€.
The restaurant closes...

Read moreStay away if its busy !! As regular visitors to Tarifa went in yesterday fri 5/12 about 09,15 -a national holiday -for a coffee and quick breakfast. Many clients waiting to eat before getting on ferry. Appallingly slow service, one waitress taking orders and billing and one clearing tables -20 minutes to get two bad coffees and a dry cold toast and after being told rather rudely they were “ very busy”and asking 5 times for our order to be taken. Asked why they didnt have more staff on a holiday and was told to speak to owners. Stay away if busy- shame because their confectionary is very good. Tarifa is now charging Marbella prices but service and food quality is v...
