We stumbled upon Vadegust in Tarragona by chance — it’s conveniently located near the train station, and we needed a quick meal before a long train ride. What an unexpected gem! The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived. The gentleman who helped us (who I believe was the owner) was incredibly kind and patient, especially considering our limited Spanish. He went out of his way to explain the menu and make us feel welcome.
Although we didn’t have time to try the rice dishes they’re famous for (be aware they take about 30 minutes to prepare), they looked phenomenal as we watched other tables receive theirs — large portions, clearly meant for sharing, and beautifully presented. It’s something I’d love to come back for next time.
Instead, we ordered the cod balls, which were light, flavorful, and not at all fishy. But the true standout dishes were the tuna and hake — both cooked to absolute perfection, fresh, tender, and paired with seasonal vegetables and just the right touch of garlic oil. The fish tasted like it had been caught that morning — easily some of the best I’ve had anywhere.
With both indoor and outdoor seating, Vadegust offers a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere that works in any weather. This is the kind of local spot you’re thrilled to discover by accident — genuine hospitality, incredibly fresh seafood, and a menu that deserves a return visit. Next time, I’m definitely staying long enough to...
