El Bobo — Restaurant in Valencia

Es regular y no lo recomiendo! Where do I start. First don’t book for three people. You get the worst table. Always book for four and claim a no show. Our reservation was for one pm on a Sunday. Very beginning of service. No one was there, every beachfront table was reserved but empty and despite our protests they stuck us round the corner out of the way. The side beach view was not so bad so we stuck with it. Decided that we’d drink water only though, and not waste money on their alcohol. Time for starters? Can we get the grilled vegetables? No, the chef is too busy to bother with grilling vegetables today. We have a big booking (!) Ok for mains, we’d like two hake and one sea bass pls. Sorry no hake. We were busy yesterday. Ok two sea bass. Sorry we only have one left. (And that was a sorry looking little fish when it turned up. Should’ve been thrown back into the sea.) Shame. Not a tourist trap because price is not that high, but the food is totally worthless. It was a closed-price menu of 26€, consisting on three starters to share plus a rice dish as a main course. As for the starters: Patatas bravas were ok. Grilled baby-squids were actually good. Fried rings of squids were ok-ish too. Probably one of those cheap types of squid, because it was tasteless. As for the rice dishes, we order one Valencian paella and a Senyoret rice (rice with seafood). They looked ok, but that was all: absolutely tasteless. Great location on the promenade, facing the beach and sea. Place was clean and the staff friendly and helpful, especially towards my son who suffers from multiple food allergies. The food itself was very good. 3 of us had the seafood paella which was wonderful. The other two amongst us had steak and lamb chops, both served with potatoes and small amount of veg. The desserts were nice, not spectacular, but still nicely finished off the meal (note no alternatives for those allergic to dairy).
