I have eaten Indian food in many countries all over the world, and in India itself. I have to say that the meal we had in Chai Restaurant yesterday was the worst meal I have ever eaten in an Indian restaurant. I booked a table for two online three days ago and I received an email yesterday morning (Saturday 15 February) asking me to confirm the reservation. I thought the place must be very popular if they are asking people to confirm their reservations and maybe it was fully booked. We arrived at 2pm and we left at 3.30pm. In that time, I only saw 6 other people having lunch there. The place was more or less deserted. The reason is obvious. It’s because the food is terrible. The vegetable samosas were OK, but nothing special. The masala chicken curry consisted of a watery sauce and had very little chicken. It was totally without taste. We asked the waiter if he could ask the person in the kitchen (I can’t use the word “chef”) to spice it up a little. The prawn korma contained just a few small prawns and the sauce was just a liquid with no taste, more like a bowl of soup. Both dishes were only warm when they arrived at the table. The rice was OK, but just a small quantity was served. The naan bread was flat and oily. It was not pleasant at all. Would I go back there again? Never. And I advise everyone...
Read moreI am an Indian staying in Barcelona for the past 4.5 years and just moved to Salou this year for a change of scenery (and because I can work from home now). Because I am an Indian, I am pretty choosy when it comes to Indian restaurants and I only found one to my liking in Barcelona, so finding another one that suited me and my taste buds sounded difficult. But then I came across Chai and the choice was pretty obvious. With a chain of 7 restaurants in Tarragona, Vila-seca, Reus, Vilanova, Terrassa, Sabadell and Sitges, the ambiance, the food and service with humility and smile is very unlike Spain. For those who do not like spicy food but still love to taste traditional Indian cuisine, I strongly suggest their Chichen Malai Tikka for the entrée, and Butter Chicken or Shahi Paneer (veg option) with Kashmiri Pulao (rice with dry fruits and saffron). End it with Gulab Jamun and you would never forget this lip smacking place for the awesome food and 5 star service. The vila-seca branch is highly recommended as that is where I had the pleasure of dining yesterday. I wish them the very best and hope they continue with quality...
Read moreIn my 18 years of living in Spain this was without a doubt the worst curry I've ever attempted to eat. Absolutely disgraceful excuse for food. Ordered popadoms, veg Samosa, lamb jalfrezi, lamb bhuna, rice and naan to take away. The Jalfrezi had zero taste, yellow colour and was basically just soup. Baby food with chunks of meat. Zero taste of any curry flavour or spices. The bhuna was criminal. There was zero and I mean zero sauce. It was a box of lamb and a colossal amount of long, sliced onion. It resembled more of a fajita filling. Possibly 2 whole onions in there and no sauce. What was there had zero flavour and zero spice. I decided to re-cook it myself. I threw some tomato frito in a frying pan with my own curry spices, chillies and added the pitiful slop of lamb and onions to try and tart it up. In the end the amount of onions rendered it just inedible. This was the first time I have got a take out from Chai. Unfortunately I should have taken it straight to the bin where...
