As a tourist, I recently visited Playa de Papagayo beach that left me somewhat unimpressed with its overall experience. Firstly, I was required to pay an entrance fee of 3 euros, which I found a bit steep considering the amenities provided. The road leading to the beach was unpaved and extremely bumpy, making the journey quite uncomfortable
One major drawback of this beach was the absence of toilets or any washing facilities. This lack of basic amenities made it inconvenient for visitors who needed to freshen up or use the restroom. It was disappointing not to find such essential facilities available, especially considering the entrance fee that was charged.
Furthermore, when paying the entrance fee, I noticed that the person in charge had a scanning device for card payments. To my surprise, the following day, I experienced an attempted online transaction on the same card I used to pay the fee. While I cannot say with certainty that this incident was directly related to the beach visit, it did raise some concerns about the security of card transactions at the beach entrance.
Considering my personal experience, I regret to say that I cannot recommend visiting Plays de Papagayo beach. The lack of amenities, coupled with the uncomfortable road and potential security issues, made it an underwhelming choice for a day at the beach. Moreover, I still find myself questioning the purpose of the entrance fee, as it did not seem justified given the overall experience. I would advise exploring other beaches in the area that offer better facilities and a more enjoyable experience.

Access road just off the roundabout is several km long and is VERY bumpy at times so you need to be careful with your driving speed. Large car parking area so no problem getting parked (we arrived at approx. 11.00am on a Tuesday). There was a €3 charge for our car entrance fee.
From the car park it's a short walk to the view point which does provide excellent views of the coastline plus you can see Fuerteventura in the distance and (presumably) a volcano or two in the opposite direction.
For the best views you can walk towards the cliff edges but be aware that there are no safety barriers and the wind can be quite strong as well.
The beaches here (which we didn't use) looked very nice with good access to the sea but getting down to them seemed a steepish walk from the car park area.
There are a couple of eating place options but strangely I didn't notice any public toilets? Maybe I just missed them but definitely not obvious from around the viewing area and outside the eateries.
Overall a nice place to visit for the views with the added bonus of good beaches. When we were leaving it was starting to get busy so obviously a...
Read moreI visited this beach because it’s said to be the most popular on the island. The access road is several kilometers long and quite bumpy, so you need to drive carefully. Parking is no problem—there’s a large lot (€3 car entrance fee), and even when we arrived around 13:00 on a Monday, spaces were available.
From the parking area, it’s just a short walk to a viewpoint with fabulous views of the coastline, and on clear days you can even see Fuerteventura in the distance. For the best photos you can walk closer to the cliff edges, but be careful—there are no safety barriers and the wind can get strong.
The beach itself, however, wasn’t what we expected. The water looked dirty, it was crowded (as you can see in the photos), and getting down from the parking area involved a fairly steep walk. There are a couple of small buffets, but I couldn’t find any public toilets.
Overall, I wouldn’t say this is the best beach on the island. The cliff views are beautiful, and the sea is calmer here, but if you want to swim, I’d recommend coming early in the morning before it gets busy. Personally, I prefer...
