Fika Cafe & Restaurant — Restaurant in Central Province

We had a very milky ‘non-coffee’ capuccino here as well as a milky sri lankan-style coffee. Both very forgettable in a very bland setting by a busy road. I then went to pay the cheque and saw the message ‘ show us a tripadvisor review before you pay and we will give you 10% off your bill’ . I think this explains why tripadvisor rates this place more highly than I would expect. These guys don’t stipulate a good review, but I am sure they know that human nature means you want your discount and you make sure you get it with a positive review.

Tripadvisor should take Fika off their lists until they stop ‘bribing/coercing’ customers to give reviews. If Tripadvisor don’t wake up and smell the coffee the whole of Dambulla, then Sri Lanka and then many other places will go down this road and a trip review will be completely worthless.

For these reasons I would suggest you avoid this place. We wouldn’t go back for the coffee or for a nice place to eat - there is no shortage of good...

We visited this place earlier this month and had a very bad experience. I don’t recommend going there. Firstly, the service was really not good as we had to wait for a long time (1 hour for a cappuccino and an omelette) and the staff did not understand us. The waiters looked like they were around 15/16 years old and neither knew the menu nor what they actually served us. We had ordered cappuccino but instead got served black coffee. When we pointed out the mistake, the waiter argued that the black coffee was actually a cappuccino. After some discussions, the waiter agreed that it was indeed not Cappuccino and replaced the black coffee (made from Nescafé) with a cappuccino - which was also made from Nescafé powder. A very bad experience in this hotel: the sink is completely clogged in the room, the coffee cups are not completely washed. A wet and wrinkled towel for stretching your legs. Pool: I haven't seen a pool with more brick water. Weightlessness of uncertain consistency floated on the surface. You can see a colony of some kind of floating beetles in the corners. Breakfast: was tragic. Peeled eggs will be brought dirty and soiled. Which we refuse to eat. The guys working are friendly and helpful, but that doesn't make up for the mess and mess of the hotel. I don't understand how people manage to rank such poor places...
