I ate at W&D no less than five times during a three-day stay in Mirissa — and I’d go back five more if I could. Tucked just along the beach (you might miss the road sign, but you won’t miss the crowd), this place earns its reputation as the most popular spot on the sand.
What sets W&D apart isn’t just the food — though the Tuna Tartare was easily the best I’ve ever had, and the grilled langoustines were rich and decadent, almost like a Sri Lankan twist on lobster thermidor. The piña coladas are also worth mentioning — not too sweet, just the right balance, and perfect while watching the sun melt into the sea.
But what really makes W&D exceptional is Samir, the host/manager. As someone who’s managed restaurants myself, I’m usually skeptical when a manager blurs the line into concierge territory. But Samir pulls it off seamlessly. Whether it was recommending the best place to go dancing after dinner or arranging a ride to the airport cheaper than PickMe, he made our stay smoother than expected. He was always present but never overbearing — a rare balance.
The service staff were on point too — clearing plates the moment we were done, always around but never in the way. It felt effortless.
During the day, they lay out comfortable daybeds for lunch, and by evening, they transform the beach into a romantic candlelit dining setup. It’s not just a meal here — it’s a vibe.

Read moreWe went on a stroll on the beach to find a restaurant where we can have seafood. W&D has a display of the fresh catch of the day and they explained which ones we can have and how they will prepare it. We had the seafood platter with 2 kinds of fishes, calamari and prawns. It was the best meal we had in Sri Lanka. The flavors are something I’ve never had before and it was amazing. They’ve made the sauce with coconut cream, butter, lemon with some subtle curry spices. They served it with mango salad and lobster rice on the side. The flavors are mind blowing. The food was so good we went back the next day.
We tried their Sri Lankan rice and curry the next day and we got the tuna and prawn curry. And as expected, it didn’t disappoint. We had it paired with caipirinha cocktail which was also very delicious. We couldn’t get enough of their food so we ordered desert. We had the fried banana in rum sauce with ice cream. With their beachfront location, we enjoyed the food, the sunset and the view. It was amazing.
Sameera was an excellent manager. He made sure we are very satisfied with our experience. He was also very engaging with all the guests and he drops by to have conversations with us whenever he is free. We had a lovely time in Mirissa because of his restaurant. We will definitely...

We came here for seafood and were absolutely blown away. The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly grilled, and bursting with flavor. The staff took the time to walk us through the seafood options on display, recommending the best catches of the day based on what was fresh. Their suggestions were spot on—every dish we tried was delicious!
Apart from the grilled fish, we also tried prawns—everything was cooked to perfection with authentic island flavors.
