Food was aight! Kinda salty and not a huge portion but it's not that expensive for Gothenburg. They also made it fast so that was nice (it was me and my girlfriend, so food for two people). For me it had an interesting kinda fusion-y vibe with some mexican and indian elements coming together, but this is disputed (more on that later). However, our server for the evening was definitely the thing that made our afternoon the most memorable.
After we'd finished the meal he came up to us and asked how the food was. I said "Yeah it's nice!" And because I'm a chatty dude I smilingly asked "'I find the food here kinda fusion-y, could I ask if you'd consider this an indian/mexican fusion?".
After I asked him this he did that thing when you smile but simultaneously think the customer said something incredibly stupid (service people know what I'm talking about). He was like "uuh no :)" and while I'm starting to sense a hint of tension I nervously go "Oh damn ok, cuz I was thinking about the kinda chutney gel that we got on our fries, and also that you have mexican inspired stuff as well, no?".
Dude then goes "No, definitely not. And this is not chutney at all". There's a slight awkward silence and then he goes "well, the cooks are from India so maybe it comes out somehow, but this food is not fusion". I just said oh okay. I paid and left no tip (this is Sweden) and the dude gave me one final look of smile-with-contempt before me and my girlfriend left the building feeling invigorated with a funny interaction to talk about and dissect.
Now, I'm thinking there's a possibility this dude: A) has absolutely no patientence when white guys aren't sufficiently knowledgeable in food from his home country (he had a turban on so I'm assuming Sikh, but I might be wrong). Like, I incorrectly suggested that our yellow mango tasting gel on our fries might have something to do with chutney and recieved his scorn, and honestly, that's on me. Like, this dude doesn't mess around when it comes to food facts, so you better read up before you make any kind of small talk here! Did I mention that indian people cooks the food here as well? I did not know that before I asked, but this guy knows that. And he also knows it does not come out in the food in any way. And frankly, I trust his judgement.
B) he might have gotten offended cuz he thought that I spoke English to him cuz he isn't white. My girlfriend only speaks English so that's why I did that! If you thought this I'm sorry! I'm not racist (I think).
Thank you for pretty nice food but first and foremost an unforgettable experience. We will definitely maybe come back some...
Read moreI have not tried the restaurant at the restaurant but I have ordered over 10 times through foodora app from it. The first few times I was exited with the quality and the tastes. However, the quality and the services changed completely. The first time that they delivered food that was half cooked I thought it was a coincidence. The second time that they delivered burnt food , I thought the same. Afterwards, the portions were minimum, the food was always cold and I don’t live far from the restaurant, they always forget to bring something and there is always something wrong in the order like today. I ordered country fries and received regular. It would not matter if it was just once. But it is not once. Or twice. And I kept ordering because I could not believe that this is the same restaurant that got me so positively impressed at the beginning and secondly, because it is the only burger place so close to my home. But today, it was the last time I gave...
Read moreThe Joint is quite the surprise. While the location makes it seem like your typical neighbourhood restaurant/pub, it is also worth a visit if you are not from the area. Two distinct vegan burgers, one more traditional BBQ one with a soy patty, and one Indian style veggie burger with a potato patty await, as well as some Tex-Mex options. With a price point of 119/129 SEK/burger and 42 SEK for a mountain of fries, this is quite the cheap feast for a pretty decent burger. Clearly one of the better vegan ones you can get, and for this price nothing to regret either. Together with the cosy, and slightly fonky, atmosphere, The Joint is quite a good place for a simple burgers &...
