Disappointing Experience at Khayyam Restaurant
We were a group of four friends who recently visited Khayyam Restaurant in Solna for dinner, and unfortunately, the experience was far from what we had hoped for.
Location & Atmosphere The restaurant is located on Storgatan, a heavily trafficked street that resembles more of a highway than a cozy destination. Parking is a real issue—limited spaces directly outside the restaurant are always full, forcing guests to park on distant side streets and walk quite a bit.
Inside, the venue feels cramped and dated. With low ceilings, visible ventilation pipes, and small sunroofs, the space feels more like a converted old boutique than a restaurant. There’s an attempt to give it a Persian theme with traditional decor, but it misses the mark. The atmosphere feels closer to a fast-food joint than a proper dining experience.
Food & Presentation We ordered several dishes: Koubideh (KBD) Meal Chili Koubideh Kebab Mahi (Grilled Salmon) Bakhtiari Kebab (Chicken and Lamb)
Sadly, none of the dishes impressed. Koubideh & Chili Koubideh: The meat did not taste grilled—it felt microwaved, bland, and lacked the distinct charcoal flavor that Persian kebab is known for. The “Chili” version was especially odd, as it wasn’t prepared with chili infused in the meat (as it traditionally should be) but instead brushed with an artificial-tasting chili sauce after cooking.
Grilled Salmon: Not grilled at all. It came dry over-spiced with Persian seasoning that completely masked the natural flavor of the fish.
Bakhtiari: The meat and chicken were terms tender, but still disappointing. Instead of a full skewer each of chicken and lamb (as is standard), we received a single skewer with five small pieces of each type, padded out with a third of a bell pepper. Not only was the portion small for one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, but the grilled tomatoes were also barely warm and clearly not grilled.
Side Dishes & Drinks The rice was fluffy on top but oily and greasy underneath—not the high-quality saffron rice one expects from a Persian restaurant.
The Salad Shirazi was poorly seasoned, with an overly sour spice that overwhelmed the fresh taste.
The Doogh (a carbonated yogurt drink) claimed to be homemade, but it was clearly just mixed yogurt and carbonated water—too sweet and lacking the natural tanginess of traditional Doogh.
We ordered tea which we all liked.
Final Thoughts While prices weren’t extremely high, the value for money was low considering the quality and quantity of food. From the cramped setting to the underwhelming flavors and confusing execution, this was not a satisfying experience. We left disappointed and do not...
Read moreThe interior design of Khayyam Restaurant in Solna, Stockholm is traditional, clean, and welcoming. I ordered the Siah o Sefid, and was very impressed , the koobideh was full of flavor and you could really taste the quality, while the joojeh was soft, juicy, and delicious. It’s clear that great care is put into both the food and the atmosphere. I will definitely go back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic...
Read moreA great lunch option with affordable prices. In my opinion, it's the best place to eat around the police station. However, I’m giving one star less due to the service—starting the order by asking about drinks without mentioning that they’re not included feels misleading. While this might bring in extra revenue, it risks damaging trust. Also, the complimentary water was the worst I’ve had...
