Just dined at Chelas and we are so thrilled. First, service was wonderful, very friendly and professional. Cute, cozy interior and nice patio, which is where we sat. As for the food, we had the enchiladas verdes with poblano and mushroom filling (vegetarian and the favorite of the night), the fried fish tacos, which were so delicious and fresh tasting, and refried beans with chips. The beans were flavorful and delicious too. Our only complaint is that the entrees are a tad small-they are priced fairly for the size so it isn't a big complaint, but there aren't a lot of side disjes on the menu to compliment the entrees with. So, if the few sides and apps on the menu aren't to your taste, you might leave a bit hungry, especially if you are vegetarian. (If you ARE vegetarian however, you still must go because you aren't going to find better Mexican vegetarian food than their enchiladas.).Hopefully they will add a few more options as far as sides go. Or, maybe they will tale the feedback to heart and start to serve the veg enchiladas with a larger portion of beans and maybe some rice. Also, I almost forgot the drinks-they have a long wine list which looks like fun to explore, and they make an excellent, not too sweet margarita. We are...
Read moreMe and my brother went on a Sunday night for dinner, it was not too busy. The decor and overall atmosphere was great with the music and the lighting. We started off by sharing the chicharon. It was my first time having it and was good but not that amazing. Though, the hot sauce on it was delicious, right amount of spice and the flavour was authentic. We both got the peach mango iced tea. Very pricey at 65 k each, but it was probably the best iced tea I’ve ever tasted. I got the carnitas and it was the best Mexican I’ve ever had, perfect amount of seasoning and all the flavours complemented each other perfectly. My only complaint is that the shell was a tad bit fragile and it fell apart easily and made the meal very messy.
We ended the night off with the churos. We got 4 instead of the listed 3 on the menu so we could spilt them evenly. When I first bit into it, it was the perfect texture. And the taste was great too. Although a little pricey with the whole meal coming to 675 k for a appetizer, two drinks, 6 tacos and four churros, it’s still definitely worth checking out if your a fan of Mexican food...
Read moreThe vegetarian option was good... but the meat lacked luster... food felt a little unloved and thrown together. It was good but not outstanding... the sides were a bit misleading like the dehydrated pork... maybe they made it them selves but really didn't feel that way, looked like they just got some pork scratchings from a packet and threw some sriracha on them. The other sides I had felt little lacking in flavour too. As for the deserts great if your a cafe but wasn't so impressed for a restaurant. O I felt a little cheated on the price at the end considering we only had one beer and two nonalcoholic drinks. Don't want to be to negative here at all... overall it was good.... but I felt like it could have been a touch better had some details been attended too. Staff were loverly, atmosphere great... but its not a place I would be like wow you have to go there! Sorry for the brutal honesty 😅 but from one chef to...
