Restaurant Zollhuus — Restaurant in Aarau

A very nice restaurant with a good and diverse menu. The setting, ambiance and service is on point. The outside seating is definitely a plus. So why is it not 5/5?

It's because of the food. I ordered a flank steak and really wanted to enjoy my scrumptious looking piece of meat after walking in Aarau all day. I was famished.

I wasn't asked how I'd wanted it cooked so I put my trust in the chef's capabilities. And oh boy, that was a mistake! The steak was completely under cooked to the point where it was bleeding. I took a leap of faith and put the first bite in my mouth.... and was shocked to have a piece of meat in my mouth that would put rubber to shame.

So here's the thing, I thought I should've made it clear to the server how I wanted my 50 Euro steak cooked. But I was relieved to know that it wasn't just me. My colleagues said their Schnitzels were over cooked and dry! The portions were tiny as well.

For a pricey restaurant, the most important aspect (food) was severely lacking. I hope they put a bit more focus and raise the food standard, not...

Food was pretty ordinary for the price. Food is ridiculously expensive in Switzerland but the high prices here did not reflect the quality of the food. The restaurant was almost empty but the service was still poor - the entree wine didn't arrive until after I'd almost finished the entree and no-one ever came to offer me dessert or coffee. We had fondue here today ,the place is good,interiors give authentic feeling. Food is good and that’s what brings us here again and again however this is 3rd time we are frustrated with service, they make you wait for everything, in between service is null , once what is served is all you get and if you need any thing on top you gonna die waiting as there is only 2 staff for 42 ppl at a time. Even if the food is good I will think twice before...
