This was our base camp for a few days in Andermatt. It’s a 5 min walk to the Gemsstock tram and 6-7 min the opposite direction into the village. We stayed in the suite on the top (4th floor) which can accommodate 6. There are two twin beds pushed together, a fold out couch, and a loft bed. There was plenty of space for all our gear and the set up/design of the suite is functional, simple, and economical. The room and bright and sunny and faced the ski hill. There’s a washroom with a toilet and sink (locking door), as well as a separate shower and sink behind a sliding barn door. There is a hair dryer, hand soap, and shower gel, but no separate shampoo and conditioner. Storage includes coat hooks along the entry, rubber mats to store shoes/boots, cubby holes, armoire with hangers, and a cabinet to store clothing. Just off to the right of the lobby, there is a boot drying room and then beyond that, a ski storage room with street access. Breakfast buffet is between 7:30-10:00am and fairly simple. The only hot food option is to hard boil eggs. Staff weren’t really present so I can’t say much about the service, but everything was clean and comfortable and we highly recommend.

Hotel Sonne is an institution in Andermatt and after several generations with one family, they now continue with the same management. And they continue doing a great job. Walking distance to all major lifts. Adding to that all rooms are newly renovated. Service is warm and fast, and breakfast a pleasure to enjoy in the old and gemütliche salons. This probably the best stay in Andermatt. Enjoy 😊

We drop by this hotel and had our meal at the restaurant, the staffs are really friendly and nice, they even brought us to take a look at their rooms, which was pretty cozy and new as they just refurbished not long ago. Food quality was good. Personal favorite will be the rosti (potato pancakes), it’s definitely a must try. I’d say it’s the best rosti I had in my Switzerland trip!

Avoid this property! The owners are unethical, money grubbing, thieves. We were charged for things we did not order at the restaurant and overcharged for everything which did not have a price on the menu. CHF 14 for a bowl of mushy vegetables to go with the tiny pot of melted cheese for CHF 76? Another CHF 9.5 for a small bottle of still water? Almost $120 USD for a low quality, snack sized portion of burnt cheese, bread, inedible vegetables and water. I’ve never felt so ripped off in my life. The man running the restaurant is truly shameless and shockingly rude in the way he treats customers. You’d think they’d be more considerate since we were staying at the hotel. The rooms we not as described and not at all like the pictures on the internet. We paid for a “delux room” for my family of four. The “pull out queen bed” was not a pull out couch but rather a beat up old futon. It was hard a a rock, smelled of urine, and covered in stains. I would have slept on the floor were it not so dirty and wet from all the leaking windows. The owners should be embarrassed of themselves. The way they take advantage of families, the false room pictures/descriptions and the condition of the rooms is unacceptable and beyond your worst...

Unethical and Racists

We were a group of 18 people. While 7 people were places on a 6 seater table, they initially managed to squeeze 11 people on the 8 seater table. Making two people sit between tables making it unable for 11 people to even move a little bit.

When we asked the servers initially, they said all tables were reserved. But then when we complained harder, they moved three of us to another 4 seater table. However until we could get an additional table took unnecessary amount of time and effort.

The fact that the restaurant thought it would be okay to squeeze 11 people at the 8 seaters thinking us Asians don’t speak English = not being able to communicate is absurd.

Even after we got an additional table, they threw utensils and cups for set up. When we asked them to wipe the table for having crumbs and water, they said, “oh it’s just from water.” When we asked again saying it’s more than water, they brought a drenched towel and carelessly wiped the table leaving more water than before. So we ended up wiping the table again with our napkins.

Lastly food. Gosh. These look and taste like one of...
