China Restaurant 99 — Restaurant in Basel

The restaurant just opened beginning of November 2021 and soon became one of our favorite places. The food was always delicious and the service exceptionally friendly. Orders are processed very quickly and the owners take their time explaining the origin of the dish and additional background information. I also find the interaction during the ordering process quite unique and the suggestions of the owner usually meets the taste. During the opening weeks they were offering delicious snacks for free that one surely is going to order in the future again. That little corner at Elsässerstrasse always appeared to be a tough place for restaurants in the recent past. I really hope these lovely new owners will get the success that they deserve. A wonderful restaurant with authentic Chinese food. The staff is very friendly and happy to cater for special wishes like less or extra spicy food. We enjoyed the tasteful decoration and relaxed atmosphere. Our dishes were all very fresh and of high quality. This being Switzerland, the Szechuan dishes could have done with extra pepper but the kind owner said that we just should request it next time. In view of Swiss fussiness regarding spice levels and what is considered ,hot’ here, the dishes were brilliant and I am just very happy that finally a dedicated team has brought real Chinese food to Basel. One of the best places in Basel I’ve been too. Super authentic food and great atmosphere. We ordered two meals, a soup and drinks, everything was delicious like I expected it to be. The duck meat was so juicy and nicely served. Highly recommend to visit this place if you want to eat real Chinese cuisine.
