Manifattura Basel — Restaurant in Basel

During our recent visit to Manifattura Basel for lunch, we were left deeply disappointed. While the restaurant employs a modern “pay-in-advance” concept at the door, which we found interesting in theory, the actual dining experience fell far short of expectations.

We both ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, but the dish was a letdown. The pasta was overcooked, losing the al dente texture that is essential to a good Italian dish. The portion of bacon was minimal, almost nonexistent, which left the dish feeling unbalanced and bland. Worst of all, the recipe included an excessive amount of cream, which not only made it overly heavy but also stripped it of any authenticity as a Carbonara. There was hardly any flavor to speak of, and it was a far cry from the rich and satisfying simplicity of the traditional dish.

Unfortunately, the quality of the food overshadowed any positives of the service concept. Given this experience, we wouldn’t return to Manifattura Basel. Authenticity and flavor are key to a satisfying meal, and this simply...

ITALIAN: Una serata piacevole con ottima pizza! Abbiamo cenato in quattro questa sera di sabato e dobbiamo dire che la pizza era davvero deliziosa, una delle migliori che abbiamo assaggiato ultimamente. I prezzi sono molto buoni, sia per il vino che per le pizze. Nonostante fosse sabato sera e il locale fosse pieno di gente, siamo rimasti soddisfatti.

L’unico aspetto da migliorare è il servizio: a causa dell’affluenza, i camerieri erano difficili da trovare e, se non li si chiamava, si rischiava di aspettare parecchio tempo. Inoltre, il tavolo per quattro persone era un po’ piccolo; sembrava più adatto per due. Detto questo, l’ambiente è carino e accogliente, e i camerieri parlano italiano, un dettaglio apprezzabile.

In generale, una buona esperienza. Sicuramente ci ritorneremo. Grazie ancora per la bella serata!

GERMAN: E gueti Obig mit super Pizza! Mir händ hüt am Samschtig z viert z Nacht gässe und chönne säge, d Pizza isch würkli super gsi, eine vo de beschte, wo mir seit längerem gha händ. D Preise sind sehr fair, sowol für d Pizza wie au für de Wii.

Weil Samschtig Obig isch und es isch mängi Lüüt da gsi, isch dr Service es bitz chaotisch gsi. Mir händ d Bedienig hüt zum Teil muesse sueche, und ohni Rückfrag hett me es längs muesse warte. Dr Tisch für vier Lüüt isch e chli chlep gsi, eher für zwöi gmacht. Aber s Ambiete isch gmüetlich und heimelig gsi, und d Bedienig het Italienisch gredt – das het üs gfalle.

Im Ganze gsee, es guets Erlebnis! Mir chömed sicher wieder. Danke für de schöni Obig!

ENGLISH: A lovely evening with amazing pizza! We had dinner for four this Saturday evening, and we must say the pizza was absolutely delicious – one of the best we’ve had recently. Prices were very reasonable, both for the wine and the pizzas.

Since it was a busy Saturday night, the restaurant was quite crowded, and the service was a bit slow. We often had to call the waiters ourselves as they seemed a bit hard to find. Also, the table for four people was quite small, more suitable for two. That being said, the atmosphere was nice and cozy, and the waiters spoke Italian, which we appreciated.

Overall, it was a good experience, and we’ll definitely come back. Thank you again for the lovely evening!

FRENCH: Une belle soirée avec une excellente pizza ! Nous avons dîné à quatre ce samedi soir, et nous devons dire que la pizza était absolument délicieuse, l’une des meilleures que nous ayons goûtées récemment. Les prix sont très raisonnables, que ce soit pour le vin ou les pizzas.

Étant donné que c’était un samedi soir chargé, le restaurant était assez rempli, et le service était un peu lent. Nous avons souvent dû appeler les serveurs, car ils étaient difficiles à trouver par moments. De plus, la table pour quatre personnes était un peu petite, plus adaptée pour deux. Cela dit, l’ambiance était agréable et chaleureuse, et les serveurs parlaient italien, ce qui était un détail très apprécié.

We went to this restaurant at 18.00 on a Saturday, and we were the second party to be seated. Ten other parties had been seated after us — from a party of two to a party of eight. They immediately got served, their orders taken and served. Meanwhile, twenty minutes since we got seated and we’re still waiting for someone to take our orders! It was just me, my husband and our baby.

We ordered a Carbonara pasta and a pizza burrata. Pasta was served ten minutes after order was placed. Pizza was served five minutes thereafter.

The pasta serving was not only so small like it’s a child’s menu. It also didn’t have any bacon in it!

And now comes year another waiting game — getting the bill. We literally had to settle our bill on our way out.
