Fiasco total!

I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Vicolo39 inside the Auberge Communale in Carouge, Geneva.

I recently dined at this Italian restaurant and had a mixed experience. For the appetizer, we tried the burrata with a tomato-based sauce, capers, and orange slices. While the combination was intriguing, the dish lacked a bit in flavor. For the main course, I had pasta with veal ragout, which was interesting but slightly too salty for my taste. I also sampled another pasta dish, which was decent but not exceptional, as well as a pasta carbonara from one of my dining companions. The carbonara stood out with its bold, peppery flavors—while some at the table found it too peppery, I personally enjoyed it a lot.

The wine recommendations were well-suited, and the overall price felt fair for the quality of the food. While not everything was perfect, there were definitely highlights, especially the carbonara. Worth a visit if...

Much of the food is excellent, but the prices are high (even by Geneva standards) given the relatively casual service and ambience. It also felt we were being upsold at every step - although, to be fair, they comped us an extra round of after-dinner drinks once we had already racked up a huge bill. The steak my wife and I shared was very good but not $200 very good. The burrata salad and fried calamari + vegetables were terrific. And they introduced me to a delicious amaro I had...

Very nice restaurant in Carouge. The place has a big garden behind the restaurant where you can enjoy your dinner outside but in a relaxed environment distant from the street and traffic. We had an appetizer to share and 2 main dishes ( steaks). All the dishes were cooked very well and the steaks were very tender. Our waiter was nice and we exchanged a few words with him during our dinner. Overall I was very happy with my dinner. If you have kids the terrace has also a playground

Excellent Italian cuisine in a beautiful garden with trees and cosy lights. We had burrata and charcuterie for starters and linguine alla nerano as main. All excellent quality! Highly recommend this place for weekend brunch or dinner. While food is standard Geneva price, the drinks were very reasonably priced.
