I visited this restaurant while on an excursion for one of my classes while studying abroad. The owners of the restaurant were extremely nice and informative. The wife of the couple gave us a tour and told us about the history of the location and how and why they do what they do in great detail. We had not set up a tour, or anything like that, we were just passing through. It was an amazing experience none of us could have expected. They spoke perfect English and and the wife gave an excellent history lesson. Il Grotto Bundi è un tipico grotto ticinese posto in via delle Cantine a Mendrisio in Ticino,il Cantone di lingua italiana della Confederazione Elvetica a pochissimi km dal confine italiano. In questo ristorante il piatto Re è senza dubbio la polenta,autoctona e taragna, fatta cuocere a lungo dentro un paiolo messo a cuocere sul fuoco diretto di un camino. Ad accompagnare questa delizia tanta scelta: formaggio, formaggio e aglio,funghi, mortadella di fegato e fagioli in umido, selvaggina, arrosti eccetera. Le sale si intersecano le une sulle altre,grande capienza, grazie anche al piano terra,meno pittoresca nell'arredamento,ma sicuramente più tranquilla. Perché ho dato 3 stelle? Perché a mio avviso è troppo caro il menù visto che si mangia la polenta in un grotto e non in un ristorante stellato sui Navigli milanesi ed è caro anche per gli svizzeri con un bel portafoglio gonfio, bisognerebbe inoltre lavorare sulla areazione del locale perché gli abiti prendono tutti gli odori della cucina e non è piacevole tornare a casa così puzzolenti; il servizio è lentissimo, poco personale che fra l'altro deve portare cibi già cotti precedentemente in quanto la cottura non è espressa tranne per il risotto. E dulcis in fundo gli orari dei pasti: ore 12 per il pranzo ore 19 per la cena,anche di domenica. Non fate tardi perché alle 13 la cucina chiude!!!!!Un po'casa di riposo. Amazing dinner: a friend of mine suggested me this place once, today I went there with some friends and had a great experience. The place is in the famous "Cantine" zone of Mendrisio, which is where all the good "Grotti" are located. The staff is really welcoming and friendly.
