Oct 22 to 29 2025 This is my fourth visit at this same hotel Schwan in Horgen: 2019, 2022, 2023, 2025 and in June 2026 which I just booked with them. Great starting point anywhere in Switzerland. From Zurich to Zermatt to Lauterbutten to Interlaken to Lucerne and back to where home is. The breakfast is great and the hosts: the husband and wife team is such a pleasant people that each morning you are welcomed with friendly faces. And a touch of home. A flower shop across from the street with beautiful creations. And if you walk around you will find host of restaurants, a church tower bell, cemetery, pharmacies, postal office, boutiques and a museum dedicated to the history of Horgen. The sound of children playing during the afternoons and locals passing by. Very charming, kind and friendly people. Train is a five minute walk and along the shores of Lake Zurich. The nearby groceries and stores like Denner, Migros and Coop are just a minute walk. Sadly I missed dining at the restaurant at the hotel as we were busy with friends and visiting but the last time I was here, it was excellent.m This is home away from home. Alberto

Would absolutely not recommend this Hotel, the sink was blocked the whole 5 days we were there. The Housekeeping if you could call it that was miserable, filthy cups, thread bear pillow cases, dirty glasses in the bathroom with toothpaste still in the bottom. When we turned the bedside lamp off everything went off including the TV. The Bar was constantly closed, the stay can I only say was unfortunately not up to standard. We booked a Delux Suit which we did not recieve and we were extremely disappointed it is obvious that the schwan sells rooms on Hotel. Com which however do not exist in that we felt that this is mis representation they were however unwilling to help. Due to these issues we would whole heartly not recommend this Hotel..would be more fitting to a Bed & Breakfast quick in and quick out

Planning a trip to the Zurich area of Switzerland? Look no further than staying at the Hotel Schwan in Horgen situated a short 30 minutes train ride from Zurich Airport. We stayed at this well run small hotel managed by Pascal Rhyner and Sabrina Nickel in September and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice of accommodation. Located on Lake Zurich we enjoyed this small hotel for its Swiss hospitality, excellent food and friendly service. As for convenience of location, we enjoyed Horgen plus we had day trips to Lucerne, Zurich and a scenic public ferry ride on the lake to Rapperswil. This was a thoroughly enjoyable stay. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Historic charm & heartfelt hospitality in Horgen!

Summary: Charming 15th-century Swiss hotel, warm personal touches, incredible views & spring blooms! A peaceful village escape just minutes from Zurich! Highly recommended

Full Review: Just returned from a lovely stay at Romantik Seehotel Schwan in Horgen, a picturesque village just outside Zurich. I was on a business trip and arrived late, but Pascal (the owner) was incredibly welcoming and accommodating!

When I arrived in my room, there was a handwritten note and Swiss chocolate from Pascal and Sabrina – such a thoughtful touch. The hotel’s history dates back to 1466 – truly special!

I stayed in Room 14, a cozy space with a comfy bed, espresso machine, and charming decor. One thing that really made it unforgettable was the corner room – one side overlooked the peaceful courtyard and the village church, and the other opened to a cute cobblestone street with a small restaurant terrace. Spring flowers were blooming everywhere, adding color and life to the scene. Waking up to that view felt like a dream! Loved that church bells in morning!

Breakfast was a highlight – eggs, bacon, fresh yogurt, cheeses, juices, and perfect cappuccinos. Sabrina, one of the owners, greeted me personally and shared some of their story running the hotel – her warmth and friendliness made each morning feel like home.

Their outdoor courtyard is lovely – shaded by umbrellas and surrounded by flowers. A perfect spot to relax with a morning coffee.

Horgen is a hidden gem, just a 5-minute walk from Lake Zurich (I shared a few photos from there!) and the train station. (Travel tip: take the train from Zurich airport or Hauptbahnhof – much cheaper than a taxi!)

I also had a fantastic lakeside dinner at Ristorante Portofino in Thalwil – just a 10-minute Uber ride away.

I can’t wait to come back with my wife and have more time to explore the lake, nearby villages, and mountain views. This stay was truly a nice stay! Thank you Pascal...
