I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant La Brasserie du Rive inside the same name hotel in Nyon, Switzerland.

We started with the smoked arctic char and trout, served alongside a fresh salad and potatoes with a light mayonnaise. The flavors were quite good, though the presentation could have done a bit more to highlight the fish.

For the main course, we had Lake Geneva perch fillets, kindly prepared without the usual creamy sauce, and instead cooked with olive oil — a delicious and lighter alternative. The fillets were fresh, perfectly portioned, and accompanied by French fries and lentils. While the lentils were well-prepared, the accompanying sauce was perhaps a touch heavy for my personal taste.

The staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming, even amid a clearly busy service — the restaurant was buzzing. If there’s one area for improvement, it would be the proximity of the tables, which can make the atmosphere quite loud when the room is full. That said, the lively ambiance is a sign of the restaurant’s popularity — and well earned.

Overall, a very enjoyable experience with high-quality local ingredients and...

Never go there in your sportswear (even at lunch) ...otherwise you will be dismissed!

Last Tuesday just before 2pm I stepped into the restaurant and kindly asked if they still had their "plat du jour". I was wearing my yoga/sportswear, I was smiling, I was happy to be there.

Without even looking at me or saying hello back, the manager just dropped one syllable "No" with a clear contempt.

A dismissive no. Not a hello, not a "can we get you anything else?".

A bit shocked, I left.

And I smiled. Because here is the irony: about 6 weeks ago, I went to this place for dinner with two friends- and that time I was wearing an elegant dress - and the same manager was (excessively) mannered and all in (fake) smiles and compliments.

Everything is said. Who you want to give your money to? Respectful people? Kind people? Or people who judge you...

Visited La Brasserie du Rive in Nyon and had a wonderful experience! We came specifically for the Filets du Perche, fresh fish caught directly from Lake Geneva, served buttery and flavorful, with the fun twist that you get a refill after finishing your plate. The Swiss prime rib on the grill was mostly excellent and tender, though the piece near the bone was almost raw, so we had to leave a small part behind. Service was overall good and fairly quick, though dessert took quite a long time to arrive. The ambiance was cozy, and the view of the lake added an extra special touch to the meal. Recommended for anyone visiting the area!
