I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant La Brasserie du Rive inside the same name hotel in Nyon, Switzerland.
We started with the smoked arctic char and trout, served alongside a fresh salad and potatoes with a light mayonnaise. The flavors were quite good, though the presentation could have done a bit more to highlight the fish.
For the main course, we had Lake Geneva perch fillets, kindly prepared without the usual creamy sauce, and instead cooked with olive oil — a delicious and lighter alternative. The fillets were fresh, perfectly portioned, and accompanied by French fries and lentils. While the lentils were well-prepared, the accompanying sauce was perhaps a touch heavy for my personal taste.
The staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming, even amid a clearly busy service — the restaurant was buzzing. If there’s one area for improvement, it would be the proximity of the tables, which can make the atmosphere quite loud when the room is full. That said, the lively ambiance is a sign of the restaurant’s popularity — and well earned.

Last Tuesday just before 2pm I stepped into the restaurant and kindly asked if they still had their "plat du jour". I was wearing my yoga/sportswear, I was smiling, I was happy to be there.
Without even looking at me or saying hello back, the manager just dropped one syllable "No" with a clear contempt.
A dismissive no. Not a hello, not a "can we get you anything else?".
A bit shocked, I left.
And I smiled. Because here is the irony: about 6 weeks ago, I went to this place for dinner with two friends- and that time I was wearing an elegant dress - and the same manager was (excessively) mannered and all in (fake) smiles and compliments.
Everything is said. Who you want to give your money to? Respectful people? Kind people? Or people who judge you...
